Great album very much in the style of Coltrane's more spiritual outings - Love Supreme etc. Would give it 5 stars if it wasn't so reminiscent of JC. That said, it's exciting to think that I can actually go see Nat Birchall play live, which is not true of 90 per cent of the jazz musicians I listen to. Perhaps I'll give him that fifth star back just for being alive.

Cracking versions of some well known Christmas tunes. Not only are these interesting to play, but they are perfect for helping improve technique for anyone in the grade 4-5 area of achievement. The book suggests suitability for grades 4 to 7 and is probably about right, although for the lower end it would be a great improvement tool, while for 6-7s just a joy to play. As a jazz fan, its great to play around the tunes a bit and these versions could easily lead to further improvisation ideas. For my son, who is grade 3 level, it is great fun stretching himself to get on top of some of the position changes and timings. The most fun I've had since last Christmas!

I saw Chris Wood and Andy Cutting play at the 2015 Folk East festival over the summer and was completely blown away. Their renditions of mostly traditional folk tunes and some original material were stunning. The sound (courtesy of Rob Harbron) was spot on, the musicianship tremendous and the banter between songs highly entertaining. Despite a longterm interest in folk music, I had not previously heard Chris Wood, but I am now a convert. I bought this particular album first because it contained many of their festival tracks and I was not disappointed - it is beautiful, moving and addictive. I will be striving to make up for lost time over the coming months. Meanwhile, everyone should check out Chris Woods version of Jerusalem (not on this album) just because it is utterly amazing. Now there's a valid Christmas number 1!

Given the line-up featured in The Full English, one would expect something special, and this album doesn't disappoint. Those familiar with the various participants will no doubt be able to tell which member is the driving for behind each track - Seth Lakeman, Nancy Kerr etc have their distinctive styles - yet the collection hangs together well as a whole listening experience. No surprise that the group was recognised at the recent BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. It's also great that the record draws attention to England's rich musical heritage - so often overlooked compared to those of Scotland and Ireland.
