3.0 out of 5 stars Worth about £30..., 10 Nov. 2016

Well I did try them walking around the house, including upstairs, and there's no noticeable drop in reception. That said, there's a significant hissing coming through these headphones and the "tuning channels" make not a blind bit of difference.
These are inexpensive for cordless 'phones- you get what you pay for.

Follow up on the hissing problem- if you turn the volume on the headphones down and turn the source volume right up, it sounds a lot better.

First impressions: Plastic is a nice, discreet blue/grey, not the old 'sky blue'. Sculpting is of an altogether higher standard than the original, with moulded panel lines and engine detail; they've even fashioned tyres with a 'flat' bottom, so they sit more realistically. Even the transfers (hate the word 'decals'...) are numbered for easy placement and look top quality. Thoroughly recommended.

Nice 'on location' narrative from historians who clearly love their work. One of the re-enactors gave the impression he was the teaboy pressganged into pretending to be a soldier; poor lad looked frozen to death lol. And Tim Saunders looked as if they'd just got him out of bed... Another fine effort in an excellent series. I'd read a good book on the subject to augment the dvd. Highly recommended.

Book was a tad disappointing- the protagonist came across as being just too good to be true (if he really did all that as described then I take my hat off to the fella). I found the format a little odd- instead of two different versions of the same events, one a 'precis' to set the scene and the other Leekey's own words- I'd have preferred closer collaboration between the two contributors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read for baby boomers, 9 Oct. 2009
Well- male ones at any rate. One or two minor factual errors (which Harry Pearson will understand, I just had to mention- you'll have to read the book).
As a toy soldier fan and contemporary of the author, I couldn't resist this tome; I'm glad I bought it. Going cheap as chips and it's a fascinating read.
I laughed out loud reading this, more in self recognition. He did get oddly sidetracked with the minutiae of his hobby halfway through the book, but that shouldn't detract from the overall 'feel good' factor he's able to evoke with this unashamed trip down memory lane.
If you're old enough to remember when airfix kits and boxes of toy soldiers were 2 bob each, when you and your mates invariably played out in tin helmets (the genuine article, not toy ones!)and you've never grown out of wargaming, then you could do a lot worse than get your hands on a copy of this book.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for nostalgia buffs, 9 Oct. 2009

I can't compare this set to the other three volumes as I haven't seen them, but anyone who remembers the series first time around will enjoy this trip down memory lane.
Yes, it's dated, the sets are dodgy, the fight scenes are embarrassingly bad, and there is absolutely no attempt to give the characters either a social or historical context. It's all very fifties acting school and Paul Eddington's 'Will Scarlet' is basically 'Jerry Leadbetter' in tights.
Listened to this through a set of headphones and the sound is fine. You can't expect 21st century sound technology- it is over 50 years old.
Recommended.
