5.0 out of 5 stars It won't disappoint, 20 April 2014

I thought the plot was excellent - lots of reveals carefully distributed along the length of the story. The pace never flagged but it didn't feel forced. And just when you think . . . but I won't give away too much. The characters all believable and interesting. A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars More joy !, 18 Feb. 2014

I know the difficulties of writing a fanfic novel which stays true to the original but also brings more to the party. Darcy's Tale Vol I and II are therefore a joy to read and I am eagerly awaiting Vol III. Congratulations to the author. Chrissie Elmore (author of Unmapped Country: the story of North & South continues).

5.0 out of 5 stars A joy, 18 Feb. 2014

A joy to read a 'what if' fanfic novel which was not only in keeping with the period (grammar, vocabulary and construction) but also gave Fitzwilliam Darcy's perspective on this timeless love story. Bought volume II immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and highly amusing - a hit, 18 Feb. 2014

Bought as a present for a non-British friend who is a devotee of our country's history and he LOVED it. He described it as an updated and more sophisticated version of 1066 and All That. Can't wait to borrow it !

5.0 out of 5 stars At last - good fanfic, 9 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
At last - a sequel that can be taken seriously. Characters not only stayed true but developed in a realistic and adult way, The vocabulary and grammar were, thankfully, in keeping the original. The plot was not all sweetness and light and was sufficiently robust to keep one turning the pages. This genre is not the easiest to write, as personal experience had taught me, but Joana Starnes has added a diamond to the slag-heap of fanfiction.

Shadow of a Ghost ... time, truth & the Titanic
Shadow of a Ghost ... time, truth & the Titanic
Price: £2.23

5.0 out of 5 stars A blend of fact, fiction and the mystical, 29 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A lovely mixture of fact, fiction and the mystic. The Titantic details are fascinating but woven cleverly into the narrative - never an information dump. Pat's life, told through flashbacks is poignant and revealing. And the dynamics between Franklin, the photographer who is reporting on the Titantic, and Pat (both living and dead) is skillfully handled.
The lyrical style successfully blends the story of the ship, of Pat's former life and the ultimate resolution between her past and her future, making the story appealing over a range of tastes and genres.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small but perfectly formed, 23 Oct. 2013

Only 32 pages but quite comprehensive with some great photographs. Despite a reasonable knowledge I still discovered the odd unknown fact. A cheap but useful addition to my Victorian research library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alternative or what !, 25 May 2013

If you think you have a chaotic life, just read Dottyville! However, despite the unimaginable and sometimes stomach churning things that happen, this is truly a 'feel good' story. Woven into the laugh out loud goings-on, the intergenerational relationships and believable dialogue keep it grounded. Suitable for almost any age, I would heartily recommend this book and can't wait for the follow-up.

Even though this is the English version I still had problems - mumbling might give authenticity but it doesn't help the plot ! However it was a great watch and a fab plot.
