The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for a grasp on the 'first draft'., 23 May 2017

Clearly written, informative, and essential reading given the abysmal state of most current journalism. Fisk comes through as soft hearted but hard headed. You always feel the impact that our wars are having on defenceless people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Both useful and enjoyable. A first rate read. Excellent., 10 Jun. 2014

I really liked this book. It is well-written, its ideas are all important and some original-at least to me. It is clearly written, the authors have something to say that they think is important so they take pains to be understood. I am already applying some of their suggestions. They work. I am looking forward to applying more and to making their use habitual. This book is worth your money and is not only useful book very enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and hilarious.in, 17 April 2014

A superb critique of the inconsistencies and contradictions in the bible. This is the most detailed and best referenced demolition jobs I have ever read and I have read a good many. Calls god to account too with devastating logic based on the bible itself.

Predictably first rate as always from this writer. With words he's better than Chandler and funnier too. Value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read, 15 Jan. 2014

An excellent read for a non-economist. It is clear and easy to understand. It gave me several happy periods of reflection on how money 'got going'. Of course it relates to all that Hayekian stuff about self-organising systems like language or markets - which I think is fascinating even if still very fuzzy. Short enough to be very enjoyable 'without the labour of thinking'. At least not too much.

Making Instruction Work
Making Instruction Work
by Robert F. Mager
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Mager standard, 30 Dec. 2013

Everything Mager does he sure does good. This book contains much that he has covered in earlier books. No harm in that. For readers familiar with his work these elements are a useful review. For newcomers they are essential for understanding the book. The book has the ease and clarity of all Mager's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent., 17 Oct. 2013

Excellent. Limpid writing - especially strong on clarifying both the logical implications of various Christian dogmas and the historical data relevant to the claims made by the various Christian churches.
I read the Kindle edition and this has a drawback in that you cannot click to get to the footnotes. Nonetheless the quality of the writing is so good that one does not get annoyed even at this inconvenience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Clear. Excellent, 4 Oct. 2013

Very clear and lively writing. It enables the reader to relate the minds and behaviour of the actors to modern ideas but is not too anachronistic. It brings out the similarity of the period to the present day globalisation crises. Plus ca change and so on. It's good to read in conjunction with Selena O'Grady's 'And Man created God.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative and really helpful., 27 April 2013

The technique used in this version is to put first one paragraph of the French original and follow it with the English translation of the same paragraph. This works much better for me than the parallel text format I have been used to. The method served to increase my reading speed to the point where I could completely relax, forgetting that I was translating. The given translation kept me up to date with the story etc., while alerting me to faux amis errors and the like. Used in conjunction with a French dictionary on Kindle it was a breeze to read. And a great and very funny read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, 27 April 2013

Fascinating and informative to the point of being shocking - even to an aged sceptic like myself. Clear and readable prose; well argued and equally well evidenced insofar as I, a non-expert, could judge.
