Not your granny's knitted rag dolls!, 13 Jan. 2011
At last! I have been looking for a book like this one for ages. This little gem is the best so far on the subject of knitted dolls. While most publications offer drab and unattractive patterns to knit the same old dolls again and again, this book takes the knitted doll subject to a whole new level.
Fiona MacDonald's babes truly are fashionistas! You can choose from 3 types of dolls to knit with 9 different examples offered in the book. Each one with her own contemporary and fun wardrobe which you can mix and match as you please.
As long as you can knit, purl, increase and decrease, you will be able to knit as many dolls as you like with accompanying garments such as bikinis, skirts, tops, sweaters, scarves, pants, slippers and ballet shoes, coats, hats and handbags. 5 stars all the way!
What set the dolls created by Fiona MacDonald's apart, in my opinion, is the face. Fiona explains early on in the book how to create realistic and precise facial features for each doll using felt and acrylic paint. She also offers a short section on hair and also on face and body needlesculpting. That extra touch is what gives the dolls their unique attractive look. That plus their long legs.
I love the clothes of the dolls so much I'd like to make them for me to wear, seriously.
Buy this book, get knitting and let your creativity flow, you will have some fun and will be able to create superb dolls that will be loved both by young fashionistas in the making and their mum too!
