2.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this but the prose is so self-aware, 26 Feb. 2016

I wanted to like this but the prose is so self-aware, too padded by irrelevancies. It's very 'an American in Paris'.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very good, 20 Nov. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Characters are thinly drawn and have little emotional depth, sexual hints are cute yet toe-curling, sub-plot of the other space craft is vague, too much technical detail, not enough action. Generally the writing is uninspired and plodding.

2.0 out of 5 stars So-so, 8 Nov. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm a retired librarian and really wanted to like this. But I found the writing dull, the plot devices (for example the constant moving up of the AOL deadline), clumsy and the characters, mostly, unsympathetic - especially Runit who I soon tired of. Skipped a lot to get to the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, 31 Aug. 2015

An interesting run through of some big cases with social history thrown in. If, like me, you are a 'child of the sixties', lots of memories as well - Keeler, Lady Chatterly etc.

Wish I'd read the reviews, instead of looking at the score. Very, very slow. Much better available for a few ££ more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to follow, 9 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Disappointing. Not enough scene setting. The book seems to be a follow on from an earlier story with several casual references to earlier events which left me puzzled. Similarly with the characters - for example plenty of references to 'Sweetie' (who she?) before the character actually appears. Nor did I find the president's husband and associated story line believable.

Really good, one of his best, 'Sign' his most perfect song. Don't miss.
