The Dead 2 [DVD]
The Dead 2 [DVD]
Dvd ~ Josephy Millson

3.0 out of 5 stars A reasonable Zombie flick, 23 Aug. 2015
This review is from: The Dead 2 [DVD] (DVD)
Follow up to the excellent Ford brothers first film, this is a similar tale but moves the story from Africa to India.
The wonderful Joseph Millson plays the hero, who is a wind turbine engineer caught up in the chaos and trying to get across India to get to his pregnant girlfriend. Along the way he picks up a young orphan lad and the two travel together, trying to stay alive.
There are plenty of jumpy moments and a fare amount of gore to keep many horror fans happy and Mr Millson is a great actor and likeable hero. The main problem is the script! Whenever there is action with the zombies the film is superb, unfortunately it keeps stopping the action with wordy 'meaningful' conversations between hero and orphan that are unbearable. The lad playing the boy is rather irritating and can be seen looking at the camera every now and then. No offence to the actress playing the girlfriend, but the gorgeous Mr Millson is surely worthy of someone far more attractive - sorry! Belief is also suspended as our engineer suddenly becomes a crack marksman with a gun! Also, whoever decided that Mr Millson should have an American accent should be shot haha!
Overall not a bad film. The zombies are scary and of the old school slow walkers and are a constant threat. Not as good as the first film but what really lets the dvd down is the shocking lack of extras! The Dead part 1 had a superb commentary and making of extras which were excellent. With this we only get a trailer - shame!

3.0 out of 5 stars T P McKenna is Henry VIII, 29 April 2015
This review is from: Monarch [DVD] (DVD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The most shocking thing about this is discovering that this is a fairly recent film. All the way through I thought I was watching something from the 1970's! The story of a night of Henry VIII as he takes refuge on a castle after a failed assassination attempt is a it like watching a play, and there are a few hammy actors around! TP McKenna on the other hand is made for this part. He is (was) a truly talented actor and the sole reason for watching this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Butterfield 8 - Spanish DVD edition/una mujer marcada, 23 April 2014
There are too many confusing/conflicting reviews on this page and all different versions seems to be lumped together in the review. This is specifically for the Spanish import.

Firstly, being region 2, it will play on UK DVD players. The price is cheap (even cheaper if bought on amazon.es). Although the picture is shown as widescreen, unfortunately it is shown as a small strip but has black Borders all around. The Spanish subtitles are underneath the actual picture but cannot be turned off. The picture quality is watchable but not great. The menu has just 2 options, watch the film in Spanish, or English with Spanish subtitles.

The story of Liz Taylor as a 'good time girl' is very good and of it's time and of course Liz looks fantastic and so is the acting. Five stars for the film but not for this particular version. Good enough for a one off watch or for completists wanting a region 2 version, but certainly not worth buying for any serious film/Liz Taylor aficionado.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent refill, 23 April 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have a tacwise staple gun and this item was ideal for the staples I needed. The staples are strong enough for jobs I required, such as stapling chicken wire to trellis and doing general repairs on my avairy/chicken coop, but don't know how they would hold up in an industrial situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nifty little thing!, 11 Feb. 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
What a great little product! Extremely lightweight but very durable. Easy to refill staples and to use. Has safety lock facility.

I used mine for securing chicken wire to trellis in my chicken run and it was certainly up for the job and very quick and easy. I like time and energy saving gadgets!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rapesco stapler, 12 Jan. 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a very sturdy stapler and excellent if you have a number of sheets to staple. However, it's less suitable for a small number. It's quite a chunky stapler and difficult to handle so best to staple from desktop.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so spicy!, 30 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Unfortunately I was not completely satisfied with this 6 jar spice rack. The picture used to display the product shows bright and varied spices and herbs. In reality you get 5 green herbs and 1 brown one! Hardly exciting! The 6 herbs and spices have their names pre-printed on the top (coriander, marjoram, bay leaves, fennel, oregano and thyme) so even if you wanted to change the spices for different ones it would have the wrong name written on it. I thought the stand seemed rather plastic looking and the actual spice jars themselves looked a little cheap with the plastic 'stainless steel' effect tops. The jar sizes are good and you get a fair amount of herbs/spices but the selection is really poor and should have included some more colourful spices. Also the bay leaves are chopped?!?! I have never used chopped bay leaves in a recipe? The plastic nozzles on the jars rotate to allow a small or larger amount of spice, although I found it easier just to take the complete cap off. Perhaps a nice housewarming gift or for someone who may not do too much cooking!

Baby Art Christmas Ball (Green & Gold)
Baby Art Christmas Ball (Green & Gold)

3.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful gift and keepsake, 30 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Great idea to capture baby (or 0-3) hand or foot forever on a Christmas decoration. The bauble is quite large and comes with tube of paint and roller. I would perhaps recommend using the foot on a younger uncooperative infant! The result may not be perfect but is a very sweet Memento.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cleaner for cider lovers!, 17 Dec. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Does what it says on the packet and Dettol already has a good reputation in germ control.

Wipes are hardy and durable. Had to give a good scrub over very dirty areas but it stood up to the task.

The apple smell is nice (and a welcome alternative to most citrus smelling cleaners), although the smell does not linger for long.
