5.0 out of 5 stars Not Going Out - Brilliant comedy!, 3 Oct. 2010

At a passing glance on television this series appears to be standard BBC sitcom fayre but once the first lol gag registers, your hooked. This, in my opinion, is simply the funniest thing on TV in years. Perfect cast and cleverly constructed situations. The comedy comes so thick and fast that you may have to watch it several time over in order to catch it all. I've watched it through three times now and I'm still finding new funny bits that I missed on previous veiwings. Just the thing to cheer you up on those dark winter nights.

The first series was great but this second series is even better. It comprises of eight episodes on two discs and features three audio comentaries and some behind the scenes footage. Feature runtime is 3hrs 49mins appprox.

Series three is just as good as this and I believe a new fourth series is due to air in late 2010. Can't wait!

Classic British sci-fi with all the right ingredients. A million year old alien spacecraft is unearthed during building works to a London underground station. Good script, acting and story. A worthy addition to any sci-fi collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic series, 9 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is of course the classic series that reminds people of a certain age of those halcyon days of endless summers and innocent, carefree times. It has a beginning, a middle and an end, unlike most of today's series which drag on and on according to the ratings before being cancelled. The picture and sound is poor but so was our TV in the 60's so even more nostalgia!

With even more haunting themes than you will probably remember, this is the story of Robinson Crusoe shipwrecked on a desert island for several years. The DVD also features an interview with still good looking star Robert Hoffman circa 2000, recalling the making of the series all those years ago and how he once had a role in Dallas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic British Science fiction, 20 May 2010

Village of the damned is a classic slice of British sci-fi about a small English village in which all of the women of child bearing age fall pregnant at the same time and give birth to super intelligent blond children able to communicate telepathically with one another.

Filmed in the real village of Letchmore Heath, near Watford, (check it out on Google Earth, it's hardly changed at all) Village is by far the better film in this 2-DVD pack. Children of the damned seems to be a loose re-imagining of the first film but without the same air of menace. No frills or extras with either film though the picture quality was very good. Both films are refreshingly short by todays standards with Village at 74 mins and Children at 86 mins. Both come in separate single DVD cases within a cardboard box cover.

I've added Village to my collection but will put Children in the car boot sale box.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, 13 Jan. 2010
This is a very detailed and in-depth look at the great UFO series of 1970. The perfect companion piece to the UFO DVD box sets. Mostly black and white photos but the level of info on each episode makes up for this. A must have for any UFO fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars The eagle has landed, 13 Jan. 2010
This review is from: Space 1999 - VIP Eagle (Toy)
This is a highly detailed and collectable display model from the tv series Space 1999. Not for playing with. Well, okay just a bit. It is a heavy die cast with some plastic parts and looks great on a glass shelf in my home office. I didn't much care for the series with it's dodgy science and blatant disregard for the laws of physics but loved the design of the spacecraft, so had to have one.

The product enterprise range of models are now so collectable they can change hands on ebay for £60-£100. You will need to hang on to the sturdy and colourful box it comes in as this adds to it's collectable value if you ever intend to resell. Just a word of warning. Once you own one, you'll want an Eagle Transporter, then an Eagle freighter, then a Laboratory Eagle.....well, you get the idea with that. It's a disease, and an expensive one too. Just convince yourself it's an investment and don't tell your wife/girlfriend/significant other, how much it cost. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly good!, 13 Jan. 2010

Back in the 70's I recorded some episodes of the Hulk on an audio cassette as this was the only way I could "own" my own copy. Now we have this fantastic box set of crystal clear episodes of a series that dared to be a little different and really stood out from the other tv shows around at the time.

Packaged in a sturdy box featuring a sound button "don't make me angry", this neatly contains 12 separate dvd cases containing a total of 24 discs. Every original series episode is here and a few interesting bonus features too. Having previously bought series 1 and 2 separately, I decided this would be a good way the buy the remaining three series with the added advantage of the whole set being stored in one box. I'm really glad I did as it beats the separates easily.

There is an air of melancholy that pervades the series as David Banner searches for a cure for his affliction and some genuinely sad moments rarely seen in television of this genre. Some episodes contain some light relief while others have very un-Hollywood downbeat endings. Dr Banner does seem to get beaten up with alarming frequency regardless of which job he takes. I have been working for 35 years and this has never happened. That said, I have great affection for this series, the stories, the cinematography and a likeable star in Bill Bixby.

The entire original series in one classy box. Enjoy at your leisure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Supercar, 19 Mar. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great box set for a great price, and you get 2 series plus a surprisingly in-depth 2 hour documentary about the making of Supercar. There is a marked improvement in the model work and effects during the second series when Derek Meddings came on board and developed the kind of effects we all grew to love. For me the charm of the show was in the simple and innocent idea....it was a car, and it was super, hence Supercar.

This wouldn't impress the kids of today, but for men (and possibly a few women) of a certain age, it's a little bit of nostalgic magic. Super.
