4.0 out of 5 stars A good book with some useful keys, 19 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A good book with some useful keys, although the lichens section could be a bit more comprehensive (some common species missing), although it's hard to put too much in a book that covers three large areas. Also some of the photos are little hard to make out key features on.

Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you're buying as a cute stocking filler, brilliant! If you're buying as an actual usable tea infuser, probably not, as not really enough room for enough tea inside, and the fella perches at not quite the right level. Ridiculously cute though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Parasites, 2 Nov. 2012
People trying to make money by selling bound versions of Wikipedia articles is pathetic - the idea people would spend money on user-written content they can access (in dynamic form) for free is ridiculous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, if pricey, 6 Jan. 2012
These are perfect for birdwatchers - the perfect size, well-bound and durable, with useful information included. The only real downside is they're a little on the pricey side - £9 for a notebook is a bit steep, but if you want your sightings to stay in good quality, hardback notebooks for posterity then these are great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tasty but doesn't do what it says on the cover, 7 Feb. 2011
My wife bought this as a good way to get some recipes that we could make quick and easily after work. As it turns out the recipes we have tried have taken over an hour to cook, and although we're hardly the speediest chefs, I'm not sure how they could have been much quicker without ending up with under-cooked meat. Factoring in shopping for some fairly obscure ingredients, and the fact that the book seems to specify you use practically every single utensil in the kitchen for every meal, meaning it takes a good half hour-45 minutes to clear up and wash up afterwards, it's hardly the time-saving wonder-book it pretends to be.

Saying all that, the meals are tasty and easy to follow. It's just a shame he has to push them as some unachievable time-trial challenge, because it turns what is essentially a pretty good cookbook into a bit of a con.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, 18 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Advanced Bird ID Guide (Paperback)
A field guide with no pictures sounds bizarre, but this is an amazing book for getting to grips with trickier IDs. It's not for absolute beginners - you'll have to have narrowed you bird ID down to a few similar species first - but all the plumage details in one place, displayed in simple bullet-point form, is an act of simple genius. You can only imagine the tireless hours that went in to compiling it.

I'd recommend every birder grabs a copy of this, it's a superb piece of work.
