The Perfect Vehicle: What it is About Motorcycles
The Perfect Vehicle: What it is About Motorcycles
by Melissa Holbrook Pierson
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Gleaming, 7 Mar. 2010
This is a gleaming book. I like Pierson's writing style - easy, intelligent. I like the contrast between her personal motorcycle journey, her historical treasures and the philosophy of riding. Cracking job.

I am a gas man and my phone does take a bashing. This is gucci kit. Protects well without being bulky. It also doesn't look out of place when I'm out - scrubbed-up and generally being the all-round original lounge lizard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional teaching, 30 Jan. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Mike Waite is an exceptional man. Many teachers find it hard to balance enthusiasm for their subject with maximum information. Mike is very good on this. I watch the dvd regularly.
He is not condescending like some advanced motorcyclists. On the contrary he displays humour and humility which in no way impinge on the respect due to the man.
The information is broken down into good sized chunks and is presented in a professional and relaxed style. The Somerset settings are a joy and present a variety of rural A and B roads.
I'd love him to do a dvd on urban riding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Class, 30 Jan. 2010
Excellent. I have recently passed das and this is a first rate book which encourages continuous self-analysis. It's concise and well structured. The diagrams are relevant, clear and a good size. Ignore the "How to be a better rider" book. It's a glossy rip-off of the mcrc. Buy the original and best! Some people consider it a dry read. I don't. Much of the stuff is obvious but the magic is in how the information is to be built into the riding plan and how it raises awareness. Peerless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 11 Jan. 2010
Bought this having done test a few months ago. The only things not covered by a decent DAS instructor are positioning and overtaking. The Motorcycling Roadcraft book is a far more weighty and serious tome. The Roadcraft book spends a great deal of time encouraging a self-analytical attitude and really focussing awareness. Its diagrams are excellent. The Better Rider book has lots of glossy and irrelevant pictures of unattractive people mincing round on their bikes. To define this book in approximately two words - "mostly padding".
