5.0 out of 5 stars HAVE WE MONK FANS OFFENDED SOMEONE?, 1 April 2010
This review is from: Monk: Season 7 [DVD] (DVD)
This penultimate season should have been released last year (2009), instead we get a release date of early April 2010, then it is rescheduled for 7th June, now, rumour has it, it is being delayed again until 23rd August. WHY!!! When so many substandard programmes are released quickly, why do we have to wait (and wait and wait...) for this quality release. Come on, let's get a fixed date - preferably this century!

Oh, the series... An excellent show about a OCD detective, brilliant in a Columbo sort of way, but different enough to be original. Good scripts and good actors. Well worth viewing - if it ever gets released. 01 April 2010

Someone else wrote that they had never read a bad book by Susanna Gregory, well, neither have I. If you like great historical crime novels with good plots, clever characters and fine historical detail, then pick up any novel by this lady, read and enjoy.

The Larghetto from the Quintet is one of the most beautiful pieces of music you will ever hear. In this version the violin seems to float above the clarinet. Sheer beauty that needs to be heard to be believed.

3.0 out of 5 stars RIP DICK FRANCIS, 3 Mar. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The reviews of this book are mixed, and rightly so, I have put off reading this since I bought it when it first came out. Well, I'm reading it now and at the moment have reached page 120 with mixed feelings. I have read all his previous books and really enjoyed them, sometimes staying up into the small hours to finish a tale.

I have also enjoyed the previous 'Halley' stories. Now, this is the point of my review - I have only got one arm, I've been like that since birth, so I am not sensative about it. I have set of alarms going through security, had my food cut for me in restaurants etc, etc. In this novel, I finally tired of the continued references to the artificial limb and the problems arising from his disability. I thought it cheap page fillers.

With reference to the author, I believe he should have remained retired and left us with great memories of a great thriller writer, this is a book too far. He passed away recently and I was sad at his passing. I will remember him for pleasure he gave with his previous gripping, brilliant novels and try to forget this one.

RIP Dick Francis.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRY THIS....., 21 Dec. 2009
This review is from: Wish You Were Here (Audio CD)
'Wish you were here' is a superb album, every track is excellent.

That out of the way, I have a suggestion for all you who like experimenting. Make your own symphonic Floyd album; three tracks, just like a Mozart Symphony:

1. Shine on you crazy diamond (Pt.1) 2. Echoes (from 'Meddle') 3. Shine on you crazy diamond (Pt.2).

This last just over 45 minutes, try it and be blown away.

Cheers

Chance In A Million Series 1 [DVD] [1984]
Chance In A Million Series 1 [DVD] [1984]

5.0 out of 5 stars AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 11 Dec. 2009
I have waited a long time for this to be released. In 1984 this was first shown on Channel 4 and repeated on ITV1 (a first at the time). It follows the (mis)fortunes of Tom Chance & his faithful & long suffering girl friend. Callow and Blethyn were excellent in this off-beat, but funny sitcom.

Not much information yet, but this looks like the first of the three seasons - one & two were brilliant, three went of the boil a bit.

So, down your beer in one and settle down to watch an original comedy series.

5.0 out of 5 stars WAITING FOR THE REST OF THE MIRACLE, 25 Nov. 2009
This review is from: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
For information, a previous reviewer lamented that 'Waiting for the Miracle had been drastically cut in half. I have just noticed that this is the cut from the soundtrack of 'Natural Born Killers'. I suppose the record company were trying to be clever (didn't work)

For Cohen's music on this disc, I have given 5 stars (I don't think I can ever give an album of Cohen's music anything less). Obviously we all have our favourite tracks that do not appear here 'Take this Longing' & 'Anthem' are just two among mine, and it is such an obvious cash in on the great man's world tour, but it is still Lenny and the songs are still wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars DAVE'S SAD STORY, 25 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Nature [Us Import] (Audio CD)
Alas, one of the finest and most original bands of all time appear to have dis-banded. They made some great and original albums with some brilliant songs. 'Nature' is no exception, laced with songs that stick in your mind like musical super glue. These guys had such a sparkling career ahead of them, but, as so often stated, together they are far greater than as individuals. Kelly Flint is superb in DTS, her solo album is nice, but ordinary. Dave Cantor is a great songwriter/guitarist, but no singer. This is their last, award winning, album, buy it, play it, enjoy it and then seek out their other recordings Sex Without BodiesUnauthorizedDave's True Story whilst they are still available. Perhaps, one day....

5.0 out of 5 stars NEW WORKS?, 17 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First and foremost, this is a beautiful album well worth buying. A lovely mixture of different instruments - piano, cello, harp, voice & harp, string quartets etc, all creating a fine album.

My only query is with the description "New works", erm, Reflexionem & Quanta Qualia have been released by Patrick Hawes before and After the Rain was surely on Classic FM's 2005 release 'The Quiet Room'. Maybe 'New arrangements' might have been more acurate. But, don't let that put you off this CD!

Reflexionem (in this setting) is so beautiful (not that it wasn't on Towards the Light') , Julian Lloyd-Webber plays with sensativity, well supported by the sensative harp of Claire Jones.

So, whether you already have 'Blue in Blue', 'Towards the light' or 'The Quiet Room', one or none of these, add this to your collection, you will not regret it.
