5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!, 18 Jan. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This torch is about the same size as a minimaglite and about the same build quality. There the likeness ends. It is so incredibly bright that, if you accidentally point it at your eyes in a well lit room (as I did when I first removed the little plastic battery blank disc), you will temporarily blind yourself. This new technology LED produces so much light that it will flood the area within 50 yards or throw a beam several hundred yards. It is the best torch that I have ever used.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent lightweight lens, 19 Sept. 2016
I've just received this lens and first impressions are that it is an amazing achivement by Nikon. My expectations were not high as it has only one ED element and no aspherics. But these expectations were far exceeded on shooting a couple of comparison shots - comparisons against identical nearview and distant subjects previously captured using Nikon 70-300 FX, 55-300 DX and 16-80 DX lenses. This lens is as optically good in every respect as the 70-300mm FX (which is much larger and almost twice the weight) and not far off the 16-80mm (which is the gold standard of DX zoom lenses). It blows the 55-300 completely out of the water (not difficult as the 55-300mm is one of the worst lens ever made by Nikon).

The new AF-P stepping motor autofocus is faster than any other lens I've ever used, very accurate and virtually silent. It is small enough to fit into a Lowepro Lens Case 1 (just) and light enough to hang off the side of my DSLR bag (containing D5500 with 16-80mm and Sigma 8-16mm) without adding the unacceptable additional weight of my old 70-300mm FX.

If you've been holding off buying this lens because you are concerned that, at this price or because it is a DX lens, the optical quality will not be up to scratch, then stop being concerned. This is an excellent lens and unless you are going to go for an f2.8 70-200mm (much bigger and hugely more expensive) I don't think there's anything to touch it.

**IMPORTANT** A question from someone prompted this: in order to use the VR switch (now in shooting menu, not a physical switch on the lens - default: On) you need a firmware update issued in January 2016. Since that is some time ago you may have already discovered an adverse affect of this update - it disables autofocus on some Sigma lenses (my 8-16mm was affected) which will also need a firmware update to resolve this. Also this lens only works with more recent cameras - check that yours is compatible before buying!

Works fine - fits a custom case whereas the cheaper generic ones with lugs do not. But for a piece of plastic (no metal in this) that probably came out of a far eastern factory for pennies it is horrendously expensive!

3.0 out of 5 stars No good if you have a close fitting case, 26 Feb. 2016
Does the job with two provisos - the lugs preclude it from fitting into either a Panasonic or generic custom "leather" case; the leaves are just long enough that they catch the ring at the end of the lens - it doesn't seem to cause a problem bt isn't elegant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lens, 23 Feb. 2016
Great lens if a little pricey. Just for context: in the past year I have used the following "standard" zooms on my Nikon D5500 camera - Nikon 18-55mm, Nikon 16-85mm, Sigma 17-70mm "C" and, lastly, this Nikon 16-80mm. As you might expect, the 17-70mm and 16-85mm gave similar results in terms of image quality and were significantly better than the 18-55mm, although the images were "soft in parts", though acceptable as was a minimal degree of chromatic fringing (common to both). The only real difference between the two was that the 17-70mm is about 1 stop faster.

The Nikon 16-80mm is in a higher class. Having just examined a series of comparison shots between the 17-70mm and this 16-80mm I'm pleased to tell you that the 16-80mm is better than the 17-70mm to a similar degree (pleased because, otherwise, I have spent an eyewatering sum of money upgading to this lens for no reason!). The images were all pin-sharp throughout the frame and I could detect no chromatic fringing. Barrel and pincushion distortion were well within acceptable limits without "Distortion Control" engaged - if you want to use Distortion Control go to the Nikon site for a (very) recent Distortion Control Data update.

Had I been assessing this lens for value it would not have merited 5 stars - it might have dropped to 3 as, even though this is a superior lens, I don't think it's worth more than £500 and I paid £769! But I don't think that would be a fair thing to do as I realised that it was over-priced when I bought it and went ahead neverheless as I personally was prepared to pay over the odds for the best quality available. I anticipate that sales figures for this lens are disappointing and I believe that Nikon would achieve much higher volume if they significantly reduced the price - there should be a better balance somewhere. Either way, if you can afford it and are prepared to pay the money for this lens you won't be disappointed - it's pretty much perfect. If you aren't prepared to fork out for the 16-80mm go for the Sigma 17-70mm "C" - it's a very good lens at less than half the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with this guide - there are far better ones available, 8 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Disappointing - I usually swear by D&K and buy ther guide for anywhere I go. I had several general guides of Andalucia and of Seville, Granada, Cordoba combined. I'm staying for 6 nights in Seville next month and the title of this guide suggested that it would concentrate on Seville giving me more inormation than I already had. Not the case. The section on Seville is short, sparse and goes into less detail than my other guides. Because it is the 2016 edition I had hoped for comprehensive advise on restaurants, hotels etc. This section is shorter than any that I have ever seen in any D&K guide and hardy scratches the surface. Don't bother with this guide - there are far better ones available.

Croydex Flexi-Fix Britannia Spigot Double Toilet Roll Holder
Croydex Flexi-Fix Britannia Spigot Double Toilet Roll Holder

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, 8 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Rubbish - I used this holder on a recently tiled bathroom wall (smooth glazed tile). Cleaned tile off thoroughly. Further cleaned with meths. Dried and further cleaned with tissue - 100% clean. Attached to wall following instructions to the letter with only one deviation - I left it to cure for 48hrs rather than 24hrs. Attached the holder to the wall plate. First thing I noticed was that the bar is not a tight fit in the lug, so the bar wobbles. Second thing - the whole thing fell off the wall 8 hours later! The problem was not with my preparation as the adhesive is still firmly attached to the wall and will require an effort to remove it - but there is now NO adhesive attached to the flange - apparently the adhesive sticks very nicely to tiles but not to Croydex flanges!

It's OK as a desk clock but not for a bedside - it has no backlight or luminosity so is invisible in the dark!

Good, well made lens case. Fits my Nikon 70-300mm with lens hood reversed easily without being loose.
