The Impostor #1: Half a Hero
The Impostor #1: Half a Hero

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun superherio action, 4 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I read this in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it!

An average Joe survives an alien invasion which appears to kill all the worlds superheroes, in escaping the aliens he dons the mantle of one of the fallen heroes and finds himself forced to adopt the personality and powers of that hero...

What follows is 4 short stories that create one medium length tale. I was initially worried that it would just deal with him dodging aliens, but there is a lot more than that and each story is an interesting and logical take on the situation Dr. Umbra finds himself in.

Well worth reading, but when is the next one out?

The Girl of Hrusch Avenue: A Powder Mage Short Story (Powder Mage series)

4.0 out of 5 stars Backstory Delight, 5 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This novella is set several years before Powder Mage and serves to fill in the backstory of some of the protagonists.

The world of Powder Mage is almost instantly recognisable and the story is engaging and absorbing.

It was a fun read and I look forward to reading more

5.0 out of 5 stars Good mix of noir and cyberpunk, 30 May 2013
Really enjoyed this novella. I enjoyed both the "voice" of the piece, the world building, and the mix of mythology and sci-fi

Well worth anyone`s money.

A Knife Edge
A Knife Edge
by David Rollins
Edition: Mass Market Paperback
Price: £6.14

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, 16 Mar. 2012
A very satisfying thriller that is part a crime investigation, part a struggle against international terrorism, and part a noir detective story, but set in the present day.

All in all very good indeed

Hammered: The Iron Druid Chronicles
Hammered: The Iron Druid Chronicles
Price: £6.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Sadly there isn't much of a story here, 30 Jan. 2012
Atticus goes after Thor because Thor is a bit of a dick. This does not make Thor the terrible bad guy I was hoping for :)

In fact Atticus commits some pretty serious crimes at the start of the novel which would make him a villain in any other series I think

Atticus collects a bunch of companions who all have a beef with Thor and off they go to Asgard to give him a kicking... And that is it, Not much of a story.

Hearne seems to realise the flimsyness of his tale, so we are treated with a number of vignettes one for each of the companions. This adds very little to the story and just serves to pad things out.

Still, what there is, is not bad and it passed the time, but was pretty weak compared to other examples of the genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, 30 Jan. 2012
This was easily as good as the first one. Interesting bad guys and a good plot. Oberon continues to be the best character, though he doesn't behave or think much like a dog. Mouse from the Harry Dresden books is better in my humble opinion
