Quite an enjoyable film although the storyline is a bit far-fetched. Typical Christmas fare.

I remember watching this on it's original broadcast during Christmas 2011 and found it thoroughly enjoyable. At last I have it on DVD and my opinion is unchanged. The story is perhaps aimed mainly at children but the whole family can enjoy it. I particularly enjoyed the performance of Stephen Fry as the devious professor, but the whole cast is on top form.

I was rather disappointed with this film to be honest. I found it very slow moving and uninvolving. None of the characters really stood out for me. The film did have a positive ending but this is to be expected with this sort of movie. The period setting was unconvincing as everybody looked too well dressed for depression hit America. Overall not a great film at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the Carry Ons., 26 Nov. 2015
This review is from: Carry On Up The Khyber [DVD] (DVD)
This is often classed as one of the very best of the Carry Ons. And you can see why-an excellent cast on top form, great script from Talbot Rothwell and a film that looks like it had a reasonable amount of money spent on it. Excellent overall.

The storyline is basically about a woman who mysteriously receives a book called 'Naughty or Nice'. It gives her the power to find out what people have been up to, either good or bad. It soon leads to a whole load of problems, including misunderstandings and judging people too quickly. She soon realises that people are not perfect but are capable of doing a lot of good. Well recommended.

A modern day well-off family end up down on their luck. When it looks like they have lost everything that's important to them, they meet a kindly stranger who helps them re-evaluate their life. There is a bit of sentimentality in this film, but this is to be expected in this sort of movie. The storyline is pretty good and the ending wraps up things nicely.

Just watched this movie and was rather disappointed by the whole thing. The story just never seems to get going until near the very end of the film. The whole proceedings also lack that Christmassy feel that I was hoping for.

THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN PLOT ELEMENTS

I must admit that I rather like 'Invasion of the Dinosaurs'. The six episodes do contain some padding but overall the story flows at a reasonable pace. Some very atmospheric location filming in the opening episode gives the viewer some interesting questions about what is actually happening- why is London deserted? and who is the mastermind behind the sudden appearance of various dinosaurs?. The actual techniques used to realise the dinosaurs is the one main negative aspect of the whole story. This is a great shame as the other aspects of the story work pretty well.

I also quite like 'The Android Invasion'. It perhaps suffers when compared to the more highly regarded stories from season 13. The first episode contains some very atmospheric location filming and sets the scene nicely. It looks like the Doctor and Sarah Jane have arrived in some peaceful English village, however the appearance of some eerie looking men in spacesuits and the odd behaviour of the locals would suggest otherwise. The story does contain some holes in the plot and the resolution is rather rushed. However, I did find the overall story enjoyable despite these shortcomings.

Doctor Who - The Brain of Morbius [DVD] [1976]
Doctor Who - The Brain of Morbius [DVD] [1976]
Dvd ~ Tom Baker
Price: £5.94

5.0 out of 5 stars Gothic Doctor Who, 30 Sept. 2013
THIS MAY CONTAIN PLOT ELEMENTS.

This is a very enjoyable story from Tom Baker's second season as the Time Lord. Even without any of the usual location filming, this adventure is very much up to the standard that is expected from this period of the programme. Due to the many gothic elements on show, the story resembles a typical hammer horror film from the early 70s. The standout performance comes from Phillip Madoc in a very memorable role as the slightly manic Solon.
The dvd comes with the usual array of excellent extras.
