I'm a bit puzzled by the nay-sayers here. This compilation has some (agreed not all, but they did create a fine body of work) of Genesis's greatest work and more besides, some if it very good. At the price, it's a steal. Hopefully, it will entice some of today's youth to dig deeper into these master artists pasts.

3.0 out of 5 stars A practical guide, 23 July 2014
I was expecting something like the Advanced User Guide for the BBC Micro (if you're old enough) which would expose the inner workings of the Pi. It was therefore somewhat disappointing to find this book is more concerned about interfacing the Pi with peripherals (including other computers, networks and the internet) and is more about how to set it up for such activities than what is going on with the Pi itself. In fact the latter gets almost no attention.

Perhaps I should have paid more attention to the title: "... A Practical Guide ...". Guess I'll just have to wait for the kind of guide I'm hoping for.

I like this product as it allows me to handle my Pi without touching any of the components yet is very open compared to other products. It grips the board securely by the corners so the board doesn't rattle about inside a box like some others. However, because it grips the corners it won't work with the new B+ model. I'm sure Camac will come up with a variation that will work, particularly as the B+ has fixing holes (though not at the corners).

Big downside, as many people have noted, is that the screws at the bottom will scratch any surface you use it on. Why little rubber feet weren't provided is a puzzle - it would have 5 stars then. I'll be sticking little rubber rings made from Bunsen burner tubing around them, though there are many other options (felt pads, hot melt adhesive pad, ...) that would suffice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value., 23 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this because I was tired of replacing the button cell batteries every 2-3 weeks in a similar product. Happily, this one runs for about 4 months on a pair of AAA batteries (a few minutes every day) so it is much cheaper to operate. The plastic fascia looks as though it may peel off but is holding up quite well so I fully expect to get my money's worth from this.

I have no idea about accuracy as this isn't critically important for my use (weighing bats) - but it seems quite consistent.

Needed a card with a bit more memory than the 'official' NOOBS SD card for the Raspberry Pi (8GB). Was a little tentative because the Pi is very sensitive about what it interfaces with. Happy to report no problems at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars What is possibly more annoying is that, 23 July 2014
It is a little disconcerting when a product purportedly for the Raspberry Pi, does not work with it. Neither of my Raspberry Pi Model Bs would boot from this card. What is possibly more annoying is that, being loaded with NOOBS, it is supposed to make it easy for beginners to get started. How demoralising for beginners when the 'easy' option fails.

My advice, if you want more than the 8GB available on the 'official' RPi NOOBS SD card and you have a card reader, is to get your own SD card (I found the Samsung 16GB Class 10 UHS-1 card to work flawlessly on the Pi) then download and install the operating system you want on it. As long as you are careful, it is not that difficult.

NOTE TO RASPBERRY PI OWNERS: Although this hub has two fast charge (1.2A) ports, the extra current is not available when operating in 'standard' mode which is what you need to use it as a hub. In standard mode it will only provide a maximum of 500mA to any of the ports. The Raspberry Pi requires 700mA. In short, you cannot use it to power the Raspberry Pi and use it as a hub at the same time unless (D-Link made this suggestion) you use a 'y' cable to allow the Pi to draw current from two ports at the same time.

4.0 out of 5 stars great keyboard, 12 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Long story short ... excellent piece of kit. The Raspberry Pi is very fussy about what it will work with and I'd been through various combinations of bits and pieces before trying this kit. Success at last.

The keyboard is robust with wonderfully tactile keys. When I bought this, US keyboards were shipped with the product but the seller is now supplying UK keyboards so no reconfiguring is required.

If there is one weakness, it is that the middle mouse button is a bit stiff. This is really only an issue if you want to run RISC OS on your Raspberry Pi as the middle button is how you open menus and this is the reason for the loss of one star. I'm harsh!

The long story involves duff batteries but the supplier was extremely helpful, and persistent, in resolving this issue - he can't be faulted there. You can buy with confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars consider the material version, 21 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
this provides excellent coverage of the topic and is full of interesting material. i was concerned it might just be100 factoids but no, it's so much richer than that. the beginning of each 'discovery' comprises a rather contrived intro in the form of 4 sentences, in block capitals, supposed to let you know what it's about and why it's there. that can be rather irritating and often appears forced. ignore that and enjoy the clarity of what follows. Giles appears to be a writer who is enthralled by his subject and wants to let you know as much as he reasonably can about this exciting, and rapidly advancing, area of science without a scrap of formality to get in the way.

the kindle edition must be the best value reading material ever (it has loads of information in it) but you might want to consider the paper version because what you don't get with the kindle are some truly amazing colour images.

kim Harrison is an extraordinary writer. though the Rachel Morgan books seem to be getting shorter, they are still packed with inventiveness and witticism. I can't think of any other series that has run for so long without losing at least some of its appeal. may that long continue.
