4.0 out of 5 stars Unbelief can be a stumbling block in a Christian's life., 3 July 2015

This book has some good points. It speaks about how new converts are always discouraged when God hides his face from them. Nobody prepares them for this strange phenomenon which means that there are some Christians who never make it beyond the honeymoon stage.

2.0 out of 5 stars When God withdraws himself you wonder if you really knew him at all., 2 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Lord's Prayer (Paperback)
It's not that good a book, but it does quote from Psalm 88:18 where it says 'darkness is my closest friend'. It begins to explore the idea of when God betrays us having previously being so real to us it makes you wonder if you ever knew him at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strength of character in not saying what is on your heart to make things worse., 28 Jun. 2015

A really good book. It speaks about restraining yourself when you feel like saying something that will only make a situation worse. Being mature means being in control of your whole being.

'A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an insult.' (Proverbs 19:11)

5.0 out of 5 stars God hiding his face from the new convert after the honeymoon period., 27 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Totally Forgiving God (Paperback)
Despite the fact that the title might be a bit misleading and R.T. Kendall does keep on repeating himself, this is a really good book that you may have to read a couple of times because some of it you have to pause for thought before you go on to the next chapter. He speaks about persisting in your faith in the absence of people suddenly disappearing from your life as if they had never been present in the first place. I wish I had read this sort of material in the 1980s.
