To All We Stretch the Open Arm
To All We Stretch the Open Arm

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing hidden gem, 11 Jan. 2016
This is a real gem - stripped back and full of musicianship. The Black Cat Orchestra prove themselves worthy collaborators for the super talented Mirah. Stand-out tracks are the gorgeous "The Light" and the catchy "What Keeps Mankind Alive?". I highly recommend this for Mirah fans.

"Boys for Pele": Tori Amos
"Boys for Pele": Tori Amos
by pianist. David Pearl
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have book for those who want to learn to play Tori's music, 11 Jan. 2016
This is a brilliant book - the songs are interspersed with high quality photos (a bonus for Tori fans), but more importantly the sheet music is a faithful (to my ears at least) transcription of the album. I bought this because I really wanted to be able to play Tori's music and this didn't disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare and gorgeous, 9 April 2015
This review is from: Weather Show [7" VINYL] (Vinyl)
This is such a little gem. I wish the Gentle Waves had lasted longer, but at least they can be proud of all their work. This is a gorgeous 2 track single and I love hearing Isobel Campbell's soft voice singing in French - such a treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is such a beautiful collection of songs, 8 Dec. 2014
This is such a beautiful collection of songs. Jen's talent is not just limited to her gorgeous voice - her lyrics are amazing. I first came across her as part of Tattle Tale on the soundtrack for But I'm A Cheerleader and have followed her since then.

5.0 out of 5 stars I found this an extremely useful book while studying French film at graduate level, 8 Dec. 2014
I found this an extremely useful book while studying French film at graduate level. It covers a diverse and interesting range of films. I bought it primarily for the article on Ma Vie En Rose, but found many of the other essays very illuminating and useful comparison pieces. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent and illuminating study of a fascinating character operating at the centre of artistic and political movements. Markham's research is impressive and gives the reader a thorough context for the times Rivera lived through and influenced. It's also generously illustrated.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure of a book, 8 Dec. 2014
I loved this book. It makes Aesop's Fables accessible while keeping the wit and humour. The illustrations are just gorgeous, making this is a real treasure of a book. I've given a few copies of it for birthdays both for children and adults who appreciate a beautifully-made book.

A very memorable, moving and frequently funny account of Ms Potts' attempts to get pregnant, told beautifully and expressively in the graphic novel format. I would highly recommend this.

A Secret History... The Best of The Divine Comedy
A Secret History... The Best of The Divine Comedy

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful rarities and classics, 24 July 2014
CD1 is a fantastic selection of The Divine Comedy's most popular and artistically brilliant releases, but it's made properly special by the wealth of rarities, atmospheric live shows, demos and previously unreleased tracks on CD2. The early demo of "Soul Destroyer" is revealing and hilarious - suggesting the band/artist might have gone off in a completely different musical direction. It also includes an unusual, but moving choice: "Dear Lord and Father of Mankind" and I particularly love his cover of David Bowie's "Life on Mars" - just gorgeous - and his live version of "Life's What You Make It". This is an amazing collection of work by a very unusual and talented artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing live album, 24 Feb. 2014
This review is from: Sincerely (Audio CD)
It's such a joy to hear Deb Talan performing live. This really captures her sound. I found my way to her music through Ani Difranco, Melissa Ferrick and Dar Williams. Highly recommended.
