5.0 out of 5 stars No frills Mil Spec timepiece, 18 Oct. 2013
This review is from: Traser P6600.91F.1Y.01 (Watch)
A worthy successor to the P6500 Navigator, the P6600 combines simplicity and function in a robust and weighty package.
The 10 year lifespan tritium markers follow the Traser tested format of eleven yellow and one orange marker (12 o'clock) for the hour markers and decent sized markers on the hour and minute hands.
It has a bi-directional bezel with a further tritium marker at the '0' position.
Mine has a NATO standard fabric strap, which is doesn't stretch and is comfortable for 24/7 use. It isn't absorbent, so doesn't hold water or sweat and doesn't end up smelling funky.
The day/date is very positive and easy to adjust by first unscrewing the crown(a very good feature over the P6500 and it is recessed).
A good looking, functional and seriously robust timepiece that doesn't break the bank.

The F-14 Tomcat Story [DVD]
The F-14 Tomcat Story [DVD]
Offered by Special Interests
Price: £3.79

2.0 out of 5 stars Dated and a little undernourished, yet food for thought., 8 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The F-14 Tomcat Story [DVD] (DVD)
Though a fairly encompassing documentary, there are frequent 'holes' in the documentary with, at times, poorly researched footage being pressed into service. Somewhat dated it is overall a bit lacking for someone looking for depth.
This does provide good value at the price though and would be of value or interest to someone beginning their Tomcat journey.

The book with the DVD has some great pictures and text by Tony Holmes which makes up for it somewhat.

Anytime, Baby!: Hail and Farewell to the US Navy F-14 Tomcat
Anytime, Baby!: Hail and Farewell to the US Navy F-14 Tomcat
by Erik Hildebrandt
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £27.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Top salute to the Tomcat, 29 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great coffee table book that is a tribute to the US Navy's last fighter.

A really good photo call on the last squadrons flying the Tomcat before it was retired. The book is somewhat let down by the printing quality. The narrative is, however, first class, with some old and bold and passionate fliers of the Tomcat adding their memories and reminiscences to the mix which brings the pictures and the book to life.

Overall, a great book for the Tomcat fan, but a great addition to any aviation or US Navy aviation fans' library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lifting the lid on the A-12, 29 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I rate this a 4/5 as it is a very thorough book on the history and development of the CIA's A-12. The authors are passionate about the subject and it comes across in their attention detail. This detail more than makes up for the somewhat agricultural writing.
The authors are at constant pains to inform the reader that the A-12 is not at all related to the SR-71, which by the third reminder begins to wear on the reader.
The copy I obtained was cheaply printed, some photos were compressed in one plane and this somewhat detracted from the overall experience.
The above points notwithstanding, this is a fantastic book that ccompletely covers the history, development and deployment of the A-12 and dispels the many myths surrounding 'Oxcart'.
Thoroughly recommended for fans of the Skunkworks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Tomcat, 2 Aug. 2013
This is the most accurate F-14D in 1/48 scale. Not a kit for beginners, it offers a rewarding model for one's efforts. Pros are the accuracy of the model, options provided for swept or extended wings, open or closed cockpit etc. Cons are some fit issues, but they are not beyond an experienced builder to remedy.
Well worth it for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb coffee table book of this iconic naval fighter, 31 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An excellent presentation book loaded with high quality photographs of the US Navy's most capable fighter, this weighty book provides a collection of superb images coupled with the reminisces of those who flew them.

Well worth every penny, even for those who are not die hard Tomcat fans, this is a perfect gift for a military jet fan or inspiration for a plastic modeller.

F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in Detail and Scale
F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in Detail and Scale

4.0 out of 5 stars A Hornets Nest of Information, 3 Jan. 2012
This is one of the few and first books currently available with fair information and up close pictures of the US Navy's new Attack Fighter.
The book does a great job of clearly addressing the needs of scale modellers and enthusiasts, but obviously as it was one of the first books, it does lack some detail and could be the victim of becoming obsolete as the Super Hornet evolves in service life.
Photos are a little small for superb reference, but are clear, text can be repetitive of captions and lacking in stats and detail.

Overall four stars, it is still a pricey book, you may want to wait for a Squadron Walk Around series book, but if not, this is definitely the book to have to detail your Super Hornet model.
I'd suggest combining this book with combing periodicals such as Airforces Monthly and Combat Aircraft for more up to date information on squadrons, carriers, weapons loadout and theatres of operation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Harrier Book on the Market, 3 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Harrier (Hardcover)
This wonderful book is the most comprehensive and up to date book on the wonderful VTOL Harrier. Including development, foreign operators, operational details and the final days of the Harrier in UK service.
Supported by great pictures, this weighty tome is practically a coffee table bible on the Harrier, and a great source of information for aviation enthusiasts and modellers alike.

Hasegawa 1/48 F/A-18F Super Hornet Low Visibility # 09759
Hasegawa 1/48 F/A-18F Super Hornet Low Visibility # 09759

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 1:48 Super Bug, 3 Jan. 2012
Hasegawa is known to be the bench mark for many model aircraft and this is no exception. Accuracy, engraved panel lines, superb detail and sound engineering add up to the best Super Hornet in the modelling world.

Although the kit lacks weapons options(a Hasegawa peculiarity) it never the less offers an extremely superb base with up to date AIM-120 and AIM-9X missiles. Four fuel tanks are included too. The kit provides options for deploying flaps down, wings folded, stabilators can be positioned and the cockpit canopy can be opened or closed with the boarding ladder stowed or deployed. The kit provides 'Low Vis' decal options for VFA-102 Diamondbacks and VFA-103 Jolly Rogers.
Not really a model for beginners, but even if you have average skills you should have enough ability to have an enjoyable build of a great plane.
Hasegawa prices in the UK have recently soared, so getting a good price was one of the reasons I looked on Amazon. Just be aware of the possibility of import duty if buying outside the UK.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Stop Book For Harrier Fans, 3 Jan. 2012
This is a very comprehensive book on the Harrier in RAF service. Aimed at the modeller, it is a visual treat of close up and in action pictures of the VTOL jets in all their guises. The close ups are particularly helpful for modelling as they answer questions about the aircraft during the build.

A great source of information, this is a great book and reference for Harrier fans.
