4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating Insight into the Catholic church in Ireland., 19 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not the type of thing I normally read.
The story, told through the eyes of a Catholic priest starts when he is a young boy in the 1960's right up to the present. He considers himself a good man and is appalled by the actions of colleagues who's actions have ruined the lives of many people and destroyed the trust and esteem that people had with the priesthood.
Brilliantly written. John Boyne brings each character to life to the point you can hear them talking. I really enjoyed the read. Some parts made me laugh and cry and everything in between.

It took a while for me to get into this latest instalment of the series. George RR Martin introduced more characters and more story lines but Wow!!! The second half was brilliant!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best So Far., 17 Sept. 2013

George R. R. Martin is a genius. The characters and stories are so good that you get drawn into the plots. But beware! Mr Martin does not do the cheesy Hollywood style happy ever afters. Just when you think you know what's coming he will pull the rug right out from beneath your feet.
