5.0 out of 5 stars A great companion to the comics if you've only seen the films, 14 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Hellboy Companion (Paperback)
I like films based on comic books, but rarely read the comics themselves, so this companion is just the thing for me. You get biographies of the characters, an overview of the comic series, a timeline of the events from the comic and a focus on the literary and mythological influences on the series. A very interesting companion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Far better than you would think, 12 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've enjoyed the various Spider-man animated series over the past twenty years (the 1990s version, the computer animated version from 2003) so I know I would get this eventually. To be honest, the cover image of Spider-man on a bike is pretty jarring, but the series explains it well. The theme of this series is Spider-man working with Nick Fury and SHIELD, so characters like Iron Man and the Hulk appear as well. Wouldn't it be nice if Spider-man could appear in the Avengers films as well?

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than I heard it was, 9 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Catwoman [DVD] [2004] (DVD)
This film obviously was never going to appeal to Catwoman/Batman fans; the main character isn't the Selina Kyle version of Catwoman that had been previously seen, lives in New York rather than Gotham City and works in the fashion industry. Halle Berry got a lot of flack for her acting; I actually thought she was better in this than she was in the X-Men films. The supporting cast are also good, with Family Guy's Alex Borstein as Patience's friend and Six Foot Under's Frances Conroy as the cat expert.

5.0 out of 5 stars A shortened season without its creator - but still pretty good, 9 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Community - Season 4 [DVD] (DVD)
The fourth season as a bit turbulent for "Community". Its creator and showrunner Dan Harmon left, the season was shortened to thirteen episodes and Chevy Chase left the show, although he appears in the vast majority of episodes. Among the good episodes are "Paranormal Parentage" (another Halloween episode where Pierce is locked inside the panic room of his mansion and the others try to help him), "Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relationships (the first appearance of Jeff's father!) and "Intro to Felt Surrogacy", where the characters use puppet versions of themselves after a tramatic balloon ride caused them to reveal secrets about themselves. Only on Community.

A fifth season of the series is a certainty, although it also be only thirteen episodes again. It will interesting to see how they address Chevy Chase's departure, as well as Donald Glover only being in five episodes.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit soulless, 7 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have mixed feelings about J.J. Abrams' Star Trek films - they tick all the right boxes for a summer blockbuster, but as part of the Star Trek franchise they feel odd, resembling more Star Wars than Star Trek. I found it a little soulless - it has fantastic effects but a weak storyline.

The characters also don't feel right to me; I was never a fan of the original Star Trek, but I'm pretty sure those writers would have put Kirk and Uhura together if they could, not Spock and Uhura. I actually bought the Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray combo as it has an image of the Enterprise on it, rather than the characters.

To be honest, one of the reasons I actually bought this was that ST:DS9's Section 31 was in it; DS9 never got much focus in the ST:TNG movies (just the appearance of the Defiant in First Contact, the mention of the Dominion in ST: Insurrection and a mention of the Dominion War in ST: Nemesis) so its nice to see it getting some love here; to me it was the best of the spinoffs.

3.0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag, 3 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The scenes set on the new DS9 are really good, especially seeing Bashir and O'Brien back together. The book suffers from being the first of "The Fall" series (hinting at upcoming events) and a rather odd "Bajoran Game of Thrones" plot. The book sets up a new DS9 series very well, hopefully more novels will be forthcoming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth a play, 18 Aug. 2013
Hulk isn't a great game, but its fun enough to warrant a play. I liked the way cars and debris become embedded in the buildings you through them at and that you get points for destruction. I also liked that they combined the real New York (the Trump Building can be visited, and destroyed) and the Marvel Comics New York, with various buildings from Iron Man, Spider-man, Fantastic Four, Dr Strange and more included. Sega's Captain America game is also worth checking out, although their Iron Man and Thor games are dire.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant series - I hope CBS release the last three series!, 18 Aug. 2013

Taxi was one of those shows which had a brilliant cast - Danny DeVito, Judd Hirsh, Tony Danza and, after guest starring an a first seasonn episode, Christopher Lloyd. I hope CBS spmeday releases the last three seasons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great if you can stand Ellroy's narration, 13 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Also known as "James Ellroy's L.A.: City of Demons", the series looks at mobster Mickey Cohen, the Black Dahlia murder and Lana Turner's involvement in the death of her mobster boyfriend, among others. Ellroy's narration is odd; he talks like a character from a 50's noir film, yet it seems fitting somehow, given the material. The series is a great companion if you liked LA Confidential, the game LA Noire and the recent film Gangster Squad.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent, very informative and detailed book, 7 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was very pleased with this as there were plenty of comments by the actors and the writers and I also liked that the book mentions where certain episodes were filmed. The book also looks at the 2007 reunion special.
