1.0 out of 5 stars What is it?, 22 July 2013
This review is from: Hatchet [DVD] (DVD)
The Amazon review refers to the unrated version but the cover shows an 18 certificate, so what is it? I know that there's an uncertificated US release (84 minutes) and a German two disc set but this doesn't seem to be the Anchor Bay or Sunfilm version.

1.0 out of 5 stars Who's to blame MGM or the BBFC, 23 July 2011
It looks like MGM this time, but they've just blown it with this one as I never, ever, buy anything that's not the original, cinematic, release (and these were designed as cinema 'shorts') Why cut an Oscar winner? Madness!

4.0 out of 5 stars One bad track can damage your listening pleasure, 27 Jun. 2011
A fine set of summer type tunes from the 50's (& very early 60's) to put on in the car and feel the sunshine, even if we are dealing with a British summer:) It's just such a shame that you have to reach for the skip button each time Bobby Goldsboro's "summer the first time" comes on, a record of such transandental awfulness that it's been in my personal bottom five forever. I know that it's a bit harsh to knock off a whole star for one track out of fifty two, but it is so bad that it makes the likes of the Cheeky Girls "Touch my bum" sound like prose, brrrrr.

1.0 out of 5 stars The unkindest cut of all, 15 Aug. 2006
This review is from: Blue Rita (1977) [DVD] (DVD)
This is the BBFC cleared & cut UK release, do yourselves a favour & get the VIP productions Swiss version as it's unadulterated & much more fun. Hey, if you've got the money buy their version of the Franco box set 'cos it's the only place to get an uncut "Love letters of a Portuguese Nun" as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars It does exactly what it says on the tin, 19 Jun. 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This double feature comes from "The Sword & Scorcery Collection" which tells you almost everything you need to know. The other thing you need to keep in mind is that it is a New Concorde production which means that although his name doesn't turn up on the box you know Roger Corman is involved at some level:)
Minimal ploting - badies attack the village, she survives, saves the day - does not detract from the large swords, larger breasts & leather bodices that make up this kind of thing. Think "The Legends of Hercules" TV series with bare breasts & (slightly) higher production values.
This is a great movie & is so pure to its' type that it moves beyone cliche and becomes a template, it's perfect, even down to the moronic, monosylabic, musclebound (but good looking) boyfriend. It's also got the astonishingly beautiful Dawn Dunlap as the little sister who is raped at the begining, a bit of a shift from the previous thing I had seen her in which was David Hamiltons' Laura.
The only thing that stops this from being a five star review is the second film where everyone apears to be taking themselves seriously and therefore not having as much fun. More ham than pork futures I'm afraid but as the two disc set is still cheaper than the single "Barbarian Queen" DVD buy this version and use disc two as a coaster.

May [DVD] [2002] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
May [DVD] [2002] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
Dvd ~ Angela Bettis

Price: £8.61

5.0 out of 5 stars A 'missed' gem, 27 Mar. 2005
I don't think this film ever got a UK theatrical release which is a great shame because Angela Bettis gives a truely mesmorising performance as a loner trying to fit in. You rarely, if ever, get acting of this quality in what is, in reality, a medium/low budget revenge flick.
It's a nice 'slow burner' & although it features a doll and dismemberment it aint Chucky or Leatherface. The plot has been explained by other reviews so I will not waste my or your time with another run through but must finish by saying buy this movie if you are a fan of the horror genre & have an IQ that is in three digits (or at least larger than your shoe size).
