5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, no-nonsense guide, 20 Sept. 2014
Everything you need to know to be a competent project manager, in straightforward language, with lots of real-world examples. My copy is covered in underlines and scribbles: key learnings from my own projects, prompted by the text. Recommended.

The built-in micro USB lead is, bizarrely, slightly too small and doesn't make proper electrical contact. Not completely useless, as you can plug your own USB lead in instead, but sufficiently annoying to receive a 2-star rating from me.

This book is really cool ! My favourite bit was when they were in the besieged castle and Robert poured the water onto the invaders below. It was really weird! I would recommend it to everyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enough good bits to make it worth the effort, 5 April 2014
There are some pleasures to be had in this curate's egg of a film. Although the sense of humour generally associated with the super hero genre is entirely absent, I nevertheless enjoyed the earlier scenes involving young Clark, which gave us an interesting take on the well-known story: the boy is so powerful it makes him miserable, and he has to consciously learn the skill of self-control. The relationship between Clark and his parents is very nicely portrayed, and undeniably moving.

Where the film suffers is the relentless, ugly violence of the second half: lens-flare-infused CGI-generated shaky camera ultra-destructive fight sequences backed by one the most turgid film scores I've ever heard, at best a dispiriting way to spend three quarters of an hour and at worst arguably a cynical exploitation of the suffering of the victims of 9/11. Either way it was a relief when it was finally over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection, 8 Mar. 2014
An excellent collection of short stories. Each one captures the essence of a particular doctor, usually accompanied by their best-known companion. I agree with other reviewers that the even-numbered stories are generally better; the most entertaining of the lot is possibly Philip Reeves' nostalgic take on the Fourth Doctor, clearly influenced by the classic story "The Face of Evil" both in plot and production values, with some great laugh-out-loud moments. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ruddy hell! It works!, 21 Aug. 2013
After a few sessions with this book, I am producing drawings far, far better than anything I thought I was capable of. My advice: if you've always wanted to draw, but assumed it was something you "weren't good at", get this book and just do it. Amazing.

Well, everyone else clearly likes this watch, which is why I bought it, but mine doesn't work. It loses time daily, e.g. yesterday I set it by the speaking clock over breakfast and by the evening it was an hour out. I am now looking for another watch! Sorry.

I can't believe that GRRM thought his readers would want to him to add in yet another hundred or so characters, at the expense of the ones we are expecting to hear about. For much of this book I was thinking "yes, but what is the point?" Perhaps we'll never know.

Gets slightly better as it goes along (only slightly), an extra star for that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not ideal, 5 May 2012

I'd have preferred it if Paul was wearing a lighter-coloured suit, and the table was made from a more natural material such as pine or marble, to be honest. Still, there are worse images of Paul Ross out there.

If "Twin Town" was the Welsh Trainspotting, then Boston Kickout is the English one. Some excellent performances from then up-and-coming actors, and a great portrayal of a New Town in all its concrete emptiness. Only let down a bit by the low budget.
