5.0 out of 5 stars comment on Amazon's review, 21 Feb. 2008
This review is from: Planet Claire (Audio CD)
I'm not writing to review the product, though I'll say that the B-52's music is totally wonderful. Frankly I don't know why someone would buy a compilation rather than all the original albums! But if what you want is a sampler, this one is good.

Rather, I want to register my dismay with Amazon review Lucy O'Brien's suggestion that the "dip in quality" of the B's music has something to do with Ricky Wilson's subsequent illness and death from complications of AIDS. This is EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE and prejudiced. The album "Mesopotamia" to which she refers is problematic, but that has everything to do with the ill-advised use of David Byrne as producer and NOTHING to do with Ricky's sexuality or illness. Amazon should not publish this kind of uninformed "explanation."

5.0 out of 5 stars lovely and complex book, 20 Mar. 2000
I bought this book in London a year ago for my three-year-old. We both continue to love it. The pictures are attractive. The story is fun but with an undertow of seriousness and sadness, very deftly evoked: the old woman who befriends the children is a widow, whose love for her dead husband is evident, and she is aging herself. It's a rare combination of fun and realism.
