5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and tortuous tale, 21 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Another great story from Lisa Marklund featuring her indefatigable reporter, Annika Bergtzon. Her injured
ex husband, Thomas, blames her for everything that befell him and resents helping out with their children, thus adding to her burden. Annika remains calm and compassionate, either trying to deal with her family or finding out what happened to a badly tortured wealthy industrialist and his missing wife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent Female Gumshoe, 19 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Totally involving, Tess Monaghan is an ex newspaper reporter turned investigator by accident rather than design. Not as hard boiled as others in the genre, but just as interesting and unorthodox in her methods, Tess is determined to find out why her Uncle Spike was beaten so badly, and was still lying unconscious in hospital. Another complication is Esskay, an extremely thin greyhound passed over to her by her Uncle, and who seems to attract dangerous attention. Loved the storyline and thought the main character of Tess herself came across as likeable and realistic. Will definitely look for more in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing New Crime Series, 13 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Set in Baltimore, Tess Monaghan is an interesting new addition to the genre. Warm hearted, perhaps rather too fond of thinking about her next meal, Tess is also a fanatical rower. When her friend and fellow rower is implicated in a murder Tess starts to investigate his fiancee who seems almost unconcerned. Good characterization and sense of place so I am already looking forward to reading more about Tess.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cavers Murder, 12 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the only book I have read in the series... Not sure if I will seek out more. I found the characters strangely involving, although the actual story was quite interesting, the crime itself dating back many years, with the discovery of a dedicated skeleton in a cave. Think the main character, Diane Fallon, needs to be made less remote and warmer, particularly in her personal life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping until the last page., 25 May 2015

This review is from: Lullaby Girl (Kindle Edition)
Excellent and enthralling, I found it difficult to put down right until the last page. Attracted and then married to Magnus, a man she hardly knew, Katherine moves to Norway expecting a different and happy life. Unfortunately, when she is found half drowned by the side of a Scottish loch she has amnesia and is incapable of rational thought. She does, however, know she is in danger and part of her resists remembering during the therapy she is offered.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual Crime Drama Set in Istanbul, 24 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent early start to an unusual series, set in Istanbul this being the second. The author obviously knows the city well and also is able to get into the mindset of the Turks themselves. Inspector Ikmen and his team are all very individual and believable characters with their own problems and the crimes themselves are never run of the mill. Will definitely read more in this fascinating series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Edinburgh Crime Scene, 30 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Interesting crime thriller, with a lot of background detail, set in Edinburgh. Liked the central character, D.C Scott Cullen, who investigates a serial killer who manages to get too close to home for comfort. This is a police procedural novel with a lot of authentic detail. Hope to read more about Scott Cullen in the near future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complex and unusual series, 28 April 2015

With it's unusual setting in Iceland and a sympathetic lawyer in Thora, investigating a very complicated series of tragic events aboard an abandoned yacht, this is a very absorbing crime thriller. Would definitely like to read more in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great and unusual storyline, 24 April 2015

Complex and complicated, with a sympathetic detective on the case, this tale of missing children is no run of the mill crime thriller. Will look forward to more, hopefully, in the series.

Absolutely gripping from start to finish. Colin, a man forced by circumstances into something he didn't want to do, I.e the kidnapping of a rich judges daughter. However he reneged on the deal and didn't turn her over to the gangsters who paid him 5000 grand, instead taking her to a remote cabin in the northern Minnesota woods, where an understanding develops between captor and victim.
