Fair Warning [Digipack]

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful surprise, 17 May 2014

Bought this almost on a whim and it is the most delightful musical surprise of the year so far. Like a modern version of Fairport Convention at their best around Unhalfbricking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something missing ..., 29 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great nostalia to read all these pieces again, but I kept feeling something was missing ... the photographs! The whole point of CAR was that it mixed great text AND great photographs together on the page. By republishing the pieces as simple monochrome text, with just a small images somehere else in the book, it definitely misses something.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dire!, 26 Aug. 2012
This review is from: Election Special (Audio CD)
As a lifelong Cooder fan (I must have bought damn near everything he has ever recorded) it pains me to say it but this CD is just dire! All the licks, melodies, etc have all been recycled from previous albums, there isn't a decent new tune on the album. The whole things sounds like it was scratched together in a garage on a wet afternoon when there was nothing much else to do. Maybe the lyrics carry some weight back home, but they sure mean nothing to me on this side of the Atlantic. Hard to believe that the man who brought us such joy with "Bop Till You Drop" and the exquisite "Borderline" is responsible for this turkey.

No Off Switch: An Autobiography
No Off Switch: An Autobiography

5.0 out of 5 stars The diary of my musical life, 20 Nov. 2011
My signed Ted Hawkins album. Watching the Bhundu Boys in the pouring rain at Cupar festival. Lyle Lovett, Dwight Yoakum, Los Lobos, David Lindley. All of these and lots, lots more are the direct result of my relationship with Andy Kershaw, over the radio or on the box. He was my guiding light thro the musical landscape of the 80's and 90'. When his book came out I bought it and read it in a oner ... an honest, heartfelt tale of a life lived at full throttle ... highs and lows, triumphs and disasters, warts and all ... it makes a truly compelling read, everyone should have a copy. I'm already looking forward to the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Slow burner, 17 Feb. 2011
This review is from: Bella (Audio CD)
Saw Teddy in Edinburgh recently, and it was a fantastic gig. "Bella" may in fact be his best album to date, but that is not totally obvious on a few listens, but a week or two later and umpteen plays and I'm hooked. The thing is, I don't know how to pigeon-hole this album, nor what to compare it to, but that is its strength. No one else is making music quite like this right now, at least not tha I'm aware of. Utterly brilliant.
