A Lovely Way to Burn: Plague Times Trilogy 1
A Lovely Way to Burn: Plague Times Trilogy 1
Price: £0.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A desperate search through a plague ridden London, 7 Aug. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A taut thriller set in a time of plague. Despite the scenes of death around her Stevie I'd determined to find out who killed her lover. The scenes of London during 'the sweats ' are brilliantly done and the culmination of her search is nightmarish.

4.0 out of 5 stars sudanese exile against new and old enemies, 27 July 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Gripping, exotic stuff with a protagonist of great character and intelligence. Slightly old fashioned exposition of the reason for the plot and who did what. Nevertheless a great read and a welcome addition to the Makana series, all of which I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Humane and exciting, 2 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A grim realistic thoroughly engrossing novel. Her villains are shown as all too human and in a way she manages to make them sympathetic characters. Alex Morrow is a great protagonist but just as hard as the people she hunts. Her family life adds to make her a full rounded person.

5.0 out of 5 stars a classic, 25 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A beautifully written story with a strong woman at its heart. Amazing description of the moors and the weather on them. Scenes of horror vividly depicted. I could not fault it. No wonder Virago published it again.

This review is from: The Woodcutter (Kindle Edition)
A powerful story of a man wronged by his friends and his wife. His revenge or search for justice is slow but sure
He works for freedom by manipulating his prison psychiatrist and confessing to crimes he did not commit..an exciting and very satisfying read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs editing, 22 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A good sf read but would be punchier and more gripping if it was editing much more tightly.
I love the idea of trains travelling through space by wormholes!

4.0 out of 5 stars Scottish noir in insane mode, 28 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Long delayed new episode in the saga of Logan McRae and his struggle with Chief Inspector Steel, she of the erratic bra straps and
erratic language.
A very touching although slightly confusing relationship with his girl friend runs throughout. Will Logan end up becoming criminal mastermind or stay on the straight and narrow ?

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant survey of modern archaelolgy, 28 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Covers many aspects of the development of archaeology from field walking to aerial surveys and the rise of the links with
metal detectorists. The accounts of the Battle of Naseby and the search For Bosworth Field are absolutely fascinating. But they are just two of the engrossing accounts of the work to uncover England's history from the ground.
