5.0 out of 5 stars Tense and pacy, 25 May 2016

A mix of genres in this gripping story. It has the pace and tension of a thriller and two attractive young protagonists. Will look for more books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner, 16 Aug. 2015

Another winner from Claire Moss. A gripping plot, believable characters, flashes of humour. This is more firmly in the thriller genre than Northern Soul Revival and Who Do You Think You Are but there is still a strong love interest. Highly recommended. I am already looking forward to book number four.

This well-written book starts well and just gets better. It is an enthralling mystery that takes us back to Ireland’s troubled past. It has good characters and is packed with atmosphere.

5.0 out of 5 stars GENRES? WHO NEEDS 'EM?, 20 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a classic murder mystery, a gripping page turner with great atmosphere, believable characters and superb writing. But it is so much more. Since reading it (and starting part two of the trilogy) I have learned it comes under the genre of alternative history rather than crime. I have seen Jo Watling described as a science fiction writer. Quite frankly, with a book as outstanding as this, genres are irrelevant. I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unusual idea that works well, 15 Jan. 2014

This is a bit of a genre bender, if there is such a thing, part sic fi, part crime story, part futuristic tale. Set in Sydney post global warming, the story takes hold straight away. The main character is glamorous yet complex and the setting adds something to the book. I look forward to the next one.

I loved this book. The clever plot has you intrigued from the start and keeps you guessing until the end. Gus Keane is an original detective who brings something new to detective fiction. Surely there must be more in the pipeline. I certainly hope so.

5.0 out of 5 stars COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN, 29 Nov. 2013

I raced through this terrific book. Two strong, complex characters trying to cope with loss have a mystery to solve. They also have to work out what they want from life and how to get it. The story, spiced with wit and humour, had me enthralled from beginning to end. This was even better than Claire Moss's first book, Northern Soul Revival (worth getting hold of if you haven't read it). The third one should be a cracker.
