2.0 out of 5 stars Works but drives me nuts, 17 July 2016
Got given this as a present so really can't complain, but if I had bought it for myself, it would have been sent back by now. It does do what it says it's going to do but Fitbit seem to have a habit of designing things just because they can. All of the problems I have with this band are of their own making and the annoying thing is that there is reply no need.

The strap is widely criticised as being unreliable and despite many generations of lost fitbits they still seem to be persevering with the same design, but my problem is slightly different in that even after several weeks, I still find it annoyingly difficult to put on. It has dropped off twice but I believe that to be more to do with not putting it on properly because of the stupid clasp design. Just put a normal buckle strap on it for gawds sake and let that be the end of it.

My other main gripe is that the thing is about as responsive as a dead fish, the automatic tilt to turn on does work, but its not 100%, so you end up standing there bashing your wrist trying to turn the thing on. Maybe it has something to do with where I'm r how tight it is on your wrist, how much give there is behind it, but sometimes I can just give it the slightest tap tap and it's fine while other times I literally have to bang it to get it to work. Just seems to be very inconsistent to me.

I walk a lot at work so on work days I am pushing 25k steps and it does seem to be fairly consistent, I have seen it count when I am not walking but I have also tested it over a counted 100 steps several times and it's been bang on to the step, so again, some inconsistency.

The final crazy design feature is the charger, which is a bespoke item, solid enough but is supplied with a ridiculously short cable. Replacements are readily available should you need it but why not just use the same proprietary micro usb connection that everybody already has 26 spares of anyway? The Alta is not designed to be waterproof so that can't be the reason for the charger design. To be honest, at this price point I would like to see wireless charging included, but in reality you don't even get a power adapter, just the lead.

Overall I would say it's probably one of the best of the bunch if this is something you want to use, but it's not without its flaws and in my opinion, definitely need t worth the almost three figure asking price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost excellent, 2 April 2016
This ASM fitness box is a neat idea that brings together a couple of common pieces of fitness equipment into one convenient package, if you are considering purchasing this type of kit then you should already have a good idea what it is for and how it is used, so rather than going over that I will give you then features and benefits of these particular models and how they compare to others on the market.

AB ROLLER / MAT - comes partially assembled, just slide on the wheels and then push on the one handle cover. This model has two wheels to give a total tread width of about 5cm, which is important for balance, the wider the better. Why this uses two thin wheels instead of one wide wheel I don't know, but it doesn't really make much difference to the function. The total width of the handle does make a difference, and in this case it is only about 25cm wide, which might prove uncomfortable for some or could even mean that your wrists give out before your abs do. The handles are covered in a dense foam which seems much better than most devices of this type which are prone to ripping, these however should stand up to their intended use quite well.

The included knee mat is again very nice quality, thick enough (about 15mm) and dense enough to provide good comfort on a hard surface, but once again, is a little on the small side, measuring about 18 x 38cm, which is fine as long as you want to work with your knees together but if you want to go wider (which you may well do for stability) then you will struggle.

PUSH UP STANDS - compared to the AB ROLLER these are practically giant sized with the bases measuring about 20cm across. They are completely plastic and seem to have what feels like plastic bearings inside, but at the same time they do feel suitably heavy duty. The rotating action is very, very smooth, even under high loads. These are the stars of the show.

SPEED ROPE - this feels like a quick add on just to make up the numbers, the rope does have that very contemporary cross fit type styling with the thin minimalistic handles, but it is actually just a very lightweight plastic rope, for fitness rope jumping you need something with a little more weight to it like cable. I was also unable to find a way of adjusting the length of the rope, I'm pretty sure it could be done but but I don't think it was designed to be adjustable. It's a shame but this rope lets the side down.

Also included in the box is a warranty card which, when registered, gives you 18 months warranty as well as a 20% discount on any future purchases on the asmfitness website, which seems like a fantastic bonus, however, when checking out the website I found that this box set is the only product they currently sell, so not such a great feature after all.

OVERALL - A very good quality set let down a little by the slighlty too small AB set and the poor jump rope. Although it was very well packaged once its out of the box and assembled, its not going to go back in, so the box is not a storage solution, which would have been a neat feature to have to keep all the kit together. If the pieces were available separately then I would definitely go for the push up stands but I would want a suitably chunkier ab roller to match them. The jump rope I would plain avoid. With that in mind I would have say that as it is, the set is overpriced, a rope most definitely should be in there as it fits in nicely and combined with the other equipment it makes for a nicely rounded set, but the quality does not match the other items and so a better alternative could be found by purchasing individual items, if the ab roller and mat were beefed up and a decent cable jump rope were included then this kit would still be expensive, but the quality would make it well worth the asking price.

I was sent this set at a discount in exchange for my honest opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tough enough, 23 Mar. 2016
An excellent quality cable with a superb braided cover that so far has resisted everything I have thrown at it, scrunched and twisted and thrown in a rucsack and it comes out looking good as new and more importantly, still in one piece. Such a relief not having to treat my device cables as though they were made of fine crystal. The new USB C standard is going to be everywhere soon and as the demand increases, more and more cheap cables will flood the market. If you want a good quality cable that will last and not let you down, get one of these, in fact, now that the price has come down, get two or three.

I was sent this cable at discount in exchange for an honest review however I have been so impressed by it, I will now be ordering more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the uninitiated, 11 Mar. 2016
This review is from: Boora Auto Clay Bar Superior 200g
If you have never used clay on your car, you need to use clay on your car. Not going into the whys and wherefores here, google it, if you want a shiny car, you need to clay it. A car simply is not clean (even if it straight out of the dealer) until it has been clayed.

This Boora clay gives you 200g, which should be enough to do about 4 average cars, maybe 3 if they have never been clayed before. It comes in a handy resealable box, wrapped in plastic, so you can take off what you need and keep the rest safe and more importantly, clean, until you need it.

In use, initially it is quite hard to handle because it is extremely sticky, which it has to be to do its job, but even by mormal clay standards, its super sticky. Hopefully you will be wearing gloves anyway but you need to lube your hands and the clay before working it. I had to swap one of my nitrile gloves because I just couldnt get an un-lubricated piece of this off, thats how sticky it is. It does say that you can use water as a lubricant but I would not recommend it, if you are that desperate to save a few pennies worth of lube or qd spray then use a squirt bottle of water with a few drops of car shampoo in it. I used a 1:16 solution of Valet Pro Citrus Bling which I already had anyway, but at this dilution it was probably about 3p worth and it worked perfectly.

The clay is very soft and easy to work into shape and easy to fold and rework when dirty. In use on my previously clayed (last summer) silver car it pulled off the dirt that I expected it too although the more stubborn spots, like tar and asphalt, rubber from the tyres, took a little more persuading to disappear. Normal Bilt Hamber Clay for example, is harder to work into shape, but removes those tough marks easier. The softness of the clay made it easy to push into small grooves, like were body panels meet trim pieces, and pull out all kinds of nasty gunk. My 50G chunk was easily enough to do the whole car, including going back over some of the worst tar spots that didn't want to go away without more focused attention.

So overall, easy to work if you know how, a lighter cleaning clay best used on an already regularly clayed car, and with the right choice of lubricant, very reasonably priced and good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works if you do it properly, 21 Feb. 2016
This stuff does exactly what it claims to do, but you have to use it properly and there are a couple of points that are essential to its success, but are usually neglected by the people who complain about the product.

Firstly, you need to apply it to a CLEAN windscreen, not just wiped over with soapy water, really cleaned properly with a clay bar. Wash as normal with rest of car and dry glass, clean screen with glass cleaner, then use clay lubed with more glass cleaner, then clean again with glass cleaner, then apply Rain X, let it cloud and then buf it off.

Secondly, and for all those people who say it smears under wipers, you need to clean your wipers. It is not the product smearing its all the accumulated crud on the wiper blades. To clean wiper blades spritz a throw away rag with glass cleaner and pinch the blade of the wiper as you run it down and along. Rotate your rag and keep doing it until the rag comes off clean. You'll be amazed how much muck comes off, thats why you use a throw away rag.

Finally and most often overlooked is the fact just like any other car surface treatment, this is temporary, it will wear off. How soon depends on the conditions, how much rain, how often you use screenwash, temperature etc, etc. The manufacturers say it will last for 60 days but that is just a guide, the key is simply to reapply it when it noticeably stops working, if its 2 weeks then its 2 weeks, if its 6 months then its 6 months. If it is 2 weeks to be fair you probably didn't use enough or let it dry well enough but you get the idea. Simples.

Cheeky final tip - this is currently cheaper at the UK's largest diy store, but it is even cheaper at the UK's biggest high street car parts retailer (both of whom coincidentally have orange logos, weird!), anyway, the diy shop will price match the car parts shop and give you an extra 10% off the lower price, which at the time of writing makes it £4.50 a bottle. I didn’t tell you though.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... few days ahead of projection which is always a nice surprise. Needed a cable to connect a Bluetooth ..., 11 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Turned up a few days ahead of projection which is always a nice surprise.

Needed a cable to connect a Bluetooth unit to the car before stashing it out of sight behind the trim. For this purpose it had to be as short as possible, both because of the limited space and because in such a tight spot with lots of other cabling a longer cable would pick up more interference and noise. It also had to be of good quality, again to cut down on the noise but also because it was getting buried I didn't want to be taking the car apart again in 6 months to replace it.

This was the shortest good quality cable I could find at a sensible price and it seems to meet my quality standards. These cables do provide great sound quality but the connectors on them are rather bulky so they are better suited to permanent installations like this rather than being used as an aux lead, they look a bit daft sticking out the top of a phone for example.

Perfect for interconnect applications, why pay more?

5.0 out of 5 stars Believe the hype, 6 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I read all the reviews and was still sceptical, but they were right, this is about as simple a device as you could make and it performs its function perfectly. It is well made, easy to use and above all, it works. It is also surprisingly cheap. The universal nature of the design also means that it is not limited to holding phones, it will hold a sat nav easily and most other small devices, probably even a small tablet. The instructions do mention however that it is not suitable for holding devices that contain a conventional hard drive, like some ipods, as the magnet will interfere with the hard drives operation.

I have always gone for manufacturers own dedicated car kits, pricey but always guaranteed to get the job done, I can't be doing with phones falling off or wobbling all over the place, but with my latest phone, a Samsung Galaxy Alpha, there didn't seem to be an official option. So I searched for ages and eventually went for this.

The device itself slots into your cars air vent and grips quite securely thanks to two different widths of jaws, depending on the size of your vents you just have to turn the holder through 90 degrees to choose between them. Unless you have a rather strange design of vents it should fit just fine however, and this is the products only weak spot, it will grip the vent so well that the only movement you will get will be from the vent itself, so if your vents are quite loose you will uave to set the holder near the bottom or it will just drag the vent downwards. It does also mean that you will effectively lose the use of an air vent, but that is the same for all air vent holders and their superiority over dodgy windscreen suction mounts more than makes up for it.

To attach your phone to the holder you have a couple of options in the form of the 2 included metal plates, 1 large and 1 small, both with a 3M adhesive sticker on them, so you can stick them directly onto your phone or your case if you use one. For a more elegant solution you can put the plate inside your case and it will still work with the powerful magnet in the holder. In my case, having a phone with a removable back, I was able to put the plate under the back cover of my phone and it was thin enough to still allow me to refit the close fitting cover and continue to use the phone without a case. The magnet surface is covered in a rubber like substance so there should be no worries about it damaging the surface of the phone. Both the large and the small plates work well, but I would suggest using the larger one inside a case to give the magnet more to pull on. Now holding my phone anywhere close to the holder results in it being snatched from my hand and into place, removing it just needs a gentle peeling action and off you go.

I will be buying a second one for my wifes car, and will be recommending this to friends.

If you have a car and a phone, get one of these. Simple.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what they say on the tin, 11 Jan. 2016
Was initially concerned about the number of negative reviews of this product but having taken the time to go through them it is clear that the people having problems with them either don't understand the product or have no idea about how networking works. Lots of people complaining about not being able to use the product in an extension lead and having to plug it directly into a wall socket, even the pass through units lol.

Every piece of networked tech I have was connected by WiFi, which is OK but for a family of 4 with phones tablets and pc's it starts to push the limits of the system. Add multiple streaming videos to the mix and you start to struggle. So taking as many devices as possible off WiFi made sense. I have two pairs of these, first one plugged into router then directly to wall socket. Second one plugged into an extension lead for power and a 5 port switch for ethernet, which is then conected to a pc, an xbox and an Android TV box, all getting 100Mbps connections. Third unit plugged directly into wall socket and directly into a pc, strangely this one didn't work, but following the linking procedure in the instructions solved the problem and took about 30 seconds.

These are the cheapest powerline adapters I could find and they work perfectly and as described.

Came quickly, before delivery estimate so good service. Printed on a Fruit of the Loom shirt and with official Disney merchandise tags so quality should be ok however it doesn't feel as soft and smooth as I would of expected for a new shirt, maybe it has something to do with the printing process. Will see how it is after a wash. Sizing is a little on the small side, generally fits well but seems a touch tight around the neck area.
