Her Birth
Her Birth
by Rebecca Goss
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.95

5.0 out of 5 stars Truthful poems, 8 Oct. 2013
This review is from: Her Birth (Paperback)
Reading this collection of poems is like being plunged into a novel. We experience first hand the emotions - roller coaster is a cliche that Goss would not give space to - of a new mother & father: joy at the birth of their much-wanted daughter, the despair and terror of diagnosis of a life-limiting condition; disbelief at their daughter's death; the emptiness and grief at her loss; the fear of having another baby; the gradual movement into trusting the world again.

More than anything this is a book about love.

The poems are spare, expertly composed, searingly truthful. They work beautifully aloud. There is so much space for the reader that it is only upon closer examination that one realises how little is on the page - a great achievement.

I defy anyone not to weep whilst reading this collection. This is not to say that it will make one miserable - Goss's touch is too light for that. One of the best collections of poetry I've read in a long time.
