Good Games but unsure as to how much they will improve brain response and reasoning. Could do with clearer pathway through games. Keeps interest alive.

This is not a difficult book to read, it is an interesting book not only for the glimpses into the lives of the characters but the obvious knowledge and interest of the author in different artistic styles.
Blending the lives of the three main females in the story gave an insight into the three middle ages of women.
Ben was the catalyst offering them all the opportunity for change.

The juxtaposition between the two countries, worlds and lifestyles and the channels stretching between them made this a fascinating read.

Lost Legend of the Thryberg Hawk
Lost Legend of the Thryberg Hawk

Price: £19.99

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is a good read, 9 Dec. 2014
Lost Legend of the Thryberg Hawk.
Dictionary definition of Legend: (www.oxforddictionaries.com)
A traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated

This book is a good read for anyone wishing to be immersed in the history and local detail covered in the thirty years War of the Roses. with much research taking historical facts and weaving throughout the story of Edmund and John Thryberg, brothers who rise from pig herders to one becoming a legend as a crossbow shot and ultimately a` Knight of the Realm` under Edward IV.

The setting is Yorkshire, covering land from Conisbrough Castle to York, the time leads us into the second half of the fifteenth century, pinpointed around 1461. The War of the Roses, between the Yorkists and the Lancastrian Tudors, was in full cry as Kings and princes battled for power and England was a troubled country in which to live.

We are told that Edmund’s legend was supressed by the Lancastrians after the end of the war and this may be the reason why the legend of the Hawk became lost. There is in the story speculation that Edmund was specially chosen to be the Avenger of Righteous Blood and one can see how such tales, as we witness in the book, could be passed on from village to village as the citizens looked for some salvation from the constant privations of war.

John, the story teller tells of the exploits of his brother Edmund as he waits held in Conisbrough Castle to be taken to Doncaster to be put to the fire as a traitor. The stories John tells while trying to downplay any suggestion of magic or special intervention show how Edmund grows in strength and character from the quietly spoken scullion into The Hawk.

The colour plates shown in the book bring to life the area covered and lend credence to the lost legend. Saint Leonard’s church at Thryberg shows a beam of light from the transept window which could have been the beam to pick out his face and show Edmund as a chosen one. The colours of the standards of the two houses bring history to life as one can see who had loyalty to House of York and who to the House of Lancaster.

Each chapter could almost stand alone as a short story but taken as a whole with the courageous exploits, deaths, family and romantic interest, this book becomes an entertaining read for the non-historian as well as the historian.

These were the first water brushes tried and although the effects that can be achieved are brilliant, even if the art work isn't, I was a little disappointed in the quality of the water pens. The reservoirs appeared a bit thin and soft and one wondered if they might leak when carried.
However, if you are not sure whether it is worth spending more on something of a better quality these could well be worth trying.
