Simon Trpceski Plays Rachmaninov: Piano Sonata No. 2 / Preludes
Simon Trpceski Plays Rachmaninov: Piano Sonata No. 2 / Preludes

2.0 out of 5 stars tidy but less expressive, 22 April 2010
I bought his recording, just wanted to listen to Rachmaninov's second piano sonata.
Simon plays Rachmaninov's pieces very tidily and neatly , as other contemporary pianists do.
As he released Petrushka, which is awfully difficult arrangement, his technical achievement
leaves nothing to be desired.

However, in terms of expression, in other words, musicality, his performance of this
recording is a little bit disappointing.
In his playing of Rach's sonata, there are only 2 dynamics, just piano and forte. He plays forte part
as always ff, and piano part is always p. He failed to produce musical gradation.
A meaning of f varies as p does. In some cases, f might be close to mf, might be close
to ff. f or p has such 'range'. His playing lacks this kind of range.
Especially third movement of Rach's second sonata, tempo is fine, but because he keeps
playing ff, a musical result is 'noisy'. Although his overall playing is very tidy and
neat as I said, his playing sounds like noise and just loud.

Or maybe he cannot control his emotion in his playing. When he gets excited, he simply
bang the keys? Of course only he knows.

However he is surely fine pianist, very typical modern 'competition' pianist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, better cost performance than anything else, 30 May 2009
Can be used as a normal USB pen drive but its size is 8GB. Large enough. You can listen to radio, virtually anywhere in this world (but notice, the radio fucntion is linked with language, so if you go to Japan and want to listen to Japanese Radio program, you will have to set its display language to Japanese, something like that). Come with a world clock and plus voice recorder.
First of all, this is a portable music player which can play MP3 and Wave.
The best advantage is that this player won't need any additional software to transfer music files, such as iTunes, which is annoyingly slow!
Just plug it into any USB port and drag and drop your music files onto this player.
That's it.
Such multifunction player costs only 50 pounds in Amazon UK. Too reasonable. No software needed, and far more practical than any other mobile
player including the most famous iPod series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is this really major version up??, 4 April 2009
I have used Finale for long as an engraver and copiest. I bought an upgrage package from 2007. However I would say MakeMusic has failed to produce a proper version up. Since 2006, Finale has been unable to show improvement as Major version-up. MakeMusic announces improvement is mainly playback, however even the Playback function has not been got better so much. Some improvement of operability can be found but it does not bring so much better productivity than before, and a lot of bugs have been ignored by Finale team of MakeMusic company.

Finale is still a leading software on notation/composing, this is such a geat software so that I have used it so long but it is said that quite a few people have switched to Sibelius because of its easy-to-use approach but I guess such people ditched Finale whose growth has been stopped. This might be another reason.

Scent Of A Woman [DVD] [1993]
Dvd ~ Al Pacino
Price: £3.00

4.0 out of 5 stars impressive, looks like reallya blind man, 4 April 2009
First of all, Al Pacino's acting is amazing, really like a blind man, and his speech to protect Charlie brings me to tears. However just one thing that was not very convincing is why Charlie and his friend had to be accused in front of whole school? they are just witnesses! Strange!

3.0 out of 5 stars Very clear, that's all., 4 April 2009
This review is from: Debussy: Préludes (Audio CD)
Krystian Zimerman will be one of the best pianists in the late 20th and 21st century. Tone he produces is so crystal clear, not harsh at all.
In this recording, that's surprising every single note is, as I said, extremely clear, the clearest! However I would say it is TOO clear, sounds like all notes shining under the sun. I think Debussy's music very much needs contrast, I mean shade and shadow, feeling of distance veiled sound somthing like that. There is no sense of these in Mr. Zimerman's Debussy. Everything is just bright. It is good but lack of nuance.
Technical perfection is brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Virtuoso!, 4 April 2009
I have listened to Gilels' performances, he is really virtuosic performer, with like steel fingers, and I have thought he is not good at small and nice piece but I was completely wrong. In this recording, he played Grieg pieces so elegantly, so beautifully. I was so impressed, this recording opened my eyes. In addition, he made me find Grieg Lyric pieces were much more beautiful and worth playing/listening than I had thought.

Must-buy recording.

3.0 out of 5 stars too general, 4 April 2009
This review is from: Composing with Finale (Paperback)
The authur is an employee of MakeMusic therefore it should be expected that he very much knows Finale. And this book is aimed at composers, not engravers or copiests. However I am sorry to say contents of this book is too general, almost the same as manual that comes with Finale. Because the author is a MakeMsusic staff, I really wanted him to deal with far more technical issue including BUGS which have been left ignored for ages, such as Finale Script (technical issue) or Ossia tool, etc....

If you did not mind reading a manual carefully when facing a question / problem, you would not need this book.

Not bad but too general and for an absolute beginner.
