3.0 out of 5 stars Could Be Better, 25 Mar. 2014

This was bought to replace the old brush that came with the original Miele Vacuum Cleaner. It is very useful but fits too loosely on the tubing - not so bad that it is worth returning but irritating. The cleaner itself is probably the best that we have owned but the connections involve forcing brushes and end pieces on the tubing. This can either prove difficult for an arthritic wrist or so easy that there is a danger of bits falling off while vacuuming. The tubing is fitted by clips. Can't see why the end pieces are not simmilarly attached.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Earlier The Better, 23 Feb. 2014

The first two albums are the classics. The quality gradually dips from thereon. Of course you've got to have Muddy and Wolf and Sonny Boy first. They knew and lived the music. But for white-boy blues, Butterfield was top of the class back in the sixties.

Eight Monk great albums squashed onto four CDs. I have most of these on LP and I love the vinyl. But you can't play LPs in a car.

One of Bill Evans' best albums. Five stars for the music but the packaging is typical Hallmark flimsy, without much information and barely worth any stars at all.

If it's the music you want and are not bothered how it's presented, this is a must. So here we have no seleve notes, no critique and the package is squeezed. But what the hell, it's great jazz. Especially at the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lee Morgan, 19 Feb. 2014

Jazz trumpeters of the fifties seem to have faded from view. Perhaps Miles drew a curtain over them. Clifford Brown set the standard and Lee Morgan carried the flame on. There's a lot of wonderful stuff here.

Good songs, good presentation, characterful performer. Maybe if he paid us a visit he'd better known here. Worth a punt in the top singer-songwriter stakes.

Don't let me disuade you from buying Eberhardt as he writes reasonable songs, but I bought this at the same time as buying James Keelaghan and Slaid Cleaves and he comes a distinct third. Maybe on another day I would have given a better rating.

This includes two copies of former LPs. 'Waltz For Debbie' is from the legendary Village Vanguard sessions. 'The Ivory Hunters' is a piano duet with Bob Brookmeyer. Can't fault the playing. One star docked because cheap price means cheap production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Jazz Piano, 19 Feb. 2014

I'm prejudiced. Bill Evans is my favourite pianist. This is one of his earlier Riverside recordings. It is arguable that he was at his best then - viz the Village Vanguard sessions and 'Everybody Digs' - and this is well up to standard. Buy it. But don't ignore the later stuff. he never played a bum note.
