Illustrated Footballer: A History of Footballers on Trade Cards
Illustrated Footballer: A History of Footballers on Trade Cards

Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but..., 1 April 2015

A good book but flawed by what is lazy compiling. I am not even too sure what to call the flaw in this book or who In the process is to blame. Please see other review for the correct way to read this book.

That said and allowing for the books age, this book should be on the book shelf of anyone interested in the collecting of football trade cards. Yes it isn't up to date, but a newer better book isn't available at the moment that covers this subject. There are other books available about specific card publishers or teams but as a general work for the card collector this is a good book.
Even with the flaws at the prices it is available for on Amazon you really can't grumble or pass it buy.

Ok so I have dropped this star for bad editing, just too many typos and it did spoil the story line e a little, dropped the other star because the story itself just isn't that good.

Crow is riding along avoiding a cavalry convoy talking the wives of troopers to a winter fort, for some reason despite his best attempts at keeping out the way he ends up with them. The story then follows the attempts by Crow to keep the little band alive long enough for the relief column to arrive.

The story jumps around a lot and there is a sex scene that is unbelievable and not really required for the plot, except as a filler or cheap titillation.

This story isn't as good as the first, the menace isn't menacing enough, the fights aren't td very well and its really just plain lazy writing. Many western fans will read it and it is o.k. its just that it could have been better, stories are meant to transport you to other places and your meant to get involved with the characters, this fails.

Sorry but it's not really acceptable even at a low price.

Best app I have downloaded onto my fire. Have dropped it a point because of the ads that pop up on the selection screen, though not when you are watching a game.

All I have to do now is figure out who is showing what instead of pot luck.

Second part of the Herne the Hunter series and while the story is good enough it is let down by numerous typos, and those spoil the flow of the story.

So a star removed for that and another for parts that just don't improve the story line.

A number of scenes should have been given more detail and weren't others are just padding and add nothing to the story. It is a shame that the editors of this series were more interested in churning out stories than doing their job correctly, a writer of talent let down by them.

So all that being said this is still a good story line Herne is still on the vengeance trail and being hunted by bounty hunters as well, this time he has the daughter of his dead neighbour along and has to worry about her as well
There are a couple of in jokes that western fans will get, but I won t spoil them for you.

Good story could have been better so only 3 stars but I will download the next instalment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rootin' Tootin' Fun Western, 15 Mar. 2015

Let's get one thing out in the open before we move on with the review. You don't read western series because you are after great literature, you read them for pure escapism and that's what this is.

The writing style varies some parts are very descriptive other times the author skims over scenes and that's why I have dropped it a star, if he had been more consistent then it would have got 5 stars. That said it's still a good story for the beginning of the series.

It's a revenge tale, Hearne and his neighbour return from a trip to Tucson to find their wives raped and one of them murdered by a gang. This sets them off on a vengeance trail. Now the story starts to move along the well worn path, and this is where it falls down as well. Some scenes are put in like they are just fillers, others could have been expanded to add more depth to the characters, maybe because these tales are from a time when westerns were churned out the authors work was badly edited, because he can write and at times that comes through.

All that being said I still enjoyed the tale and will download the next in the series straight away.

The kindle is a great thing for westerns, it may save the genre from disappearing altogether, and I for one am glad I have found it again.

If you like your tales full of action and fun then you won't be disappointed by this one.

Time to saddle up partner and hit the trail again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking read, 10 Mar. 2015

Been a while since I have read a western, and I am glad to have discovered that the kindle library has loads of them.

This one is a simple enough story of a cavalry officer wrongly accused of cowardice by a drunken slob of a man who is a fool and a disgrace to his uniform. It's the first in the Crow series and tells how he and why he gets his revenge.

A few typos are obvious as you read but nothing major and certainly nothing that should stop you reading this book. It is a violent tale set in a violent time, not a book for the faint hearted one for the western enthusiasts out there who remember the spaghetti westerns.

It's a man's adventure tale, something that is sadly missing in today's market, not an example of a great author writing a classic tale, but a good author who understands that sometimes the reader wants high adventure and fun. If westerns or men's adventure tales are what you are after get this and treat yourself to some escapism

Don't understand the totally negative reviews it is an ok game but not a brilliant one, glad it was the free app of the day. The physics of the game is slow and sluggish pinball is meant to be fast and reward long play
This seems to been designed by folk who have never played a balliey game. Try it you might like it as for me well I shall be plating the better pinball games available on the fire

Every now and then a free app of the day comes along that shows exactly what a fire can do, and this is just that.
A excellent app that should be downloaded by everyone, but unfortunately it won't be and that is a massive shame.
Allows you to explore the landing sites, bodies of water, valleys, plains etc etc
It's just goes to show that among all the dross and games that want your money and data there is gold that just wants to be of interest and educate, one word for this BRILLIANT.

The Target (Will Robie Book 3)
The Target (Will Robie Book 3)
Price: £3.59

4.0 out of 5 stars good thriiler, 30 Dec. 2014
A good action thriller from a master of his game.
I said previously that I wouldn't read any more will robie books because the second one was rubbish, and I thought the writing was lazy. Well nothing attracted my attention and I was bored so I licked this one up, and I am glad I did. Back to his best even if the plot is a little unbelievable but that's what fiction is all about and this is a cracking read. I dropped it a point because it skimmed over some parts that needed to be fuller but it's really a very minor point. Looking forward to the next one.
