1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Prime is awful., 27 Jan. 2015
This review is from: Frasier - Season 8 (Amazon Video)
Frasier is fantastic, I love this series, I watched it years ago and I was thoroughly enjoying watching it again.

Amazon Prime is despicable. I can't believe that with no warning, with no reason or explanation, all of a sudden you can't watch any of the episodes. I tried to talk with customer service thinking that this must be a mistake, and got a standard, half-hearted reply, with no explanation of why this happened.

If this is Amazon Prime whose policy takes shows away without notice, you will lose a lot of customers fast. If you are being pressured by the production companies, then you need to have much better contracts.

I am completely and utterly disappointed and am now strongly considering leaving Amazon Prime.

4.0 out of 5 stars We love Princess Sofia, 28 Aug. 2013
I was surprised that has a picture and a few reviews, and has no information! Seems like the left hand needs to talk to the right hand! I got the following from

We love Sofia, and are looking forward to adding this DVD to our collection.

This DVD contains five great episodes from the first season. Amazon doesn't always do a good job on their DVD episode listings so here are the episodes that are included on this DVD:
1. A Royal Mess - James breaks a stained glass window in the castle and Sofia covers for him so he can go to the Goldenwing Circus.
2. The Shy Princess - Sofia helps a shy classmate named Vivian and Clover makes a new Dragon friend (great song in this episode).
3. Blue Ribbon Bunny - Clover the rabbit shows off his talents.
4. The Princess Test - The princesses learn valuable lessons at Royal Prep Academy.
5. Two To Tangu - Sofia and Amber go on a magic carpet ride and get a special visit from Princess Jasmine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!, 27 Mar. 2013
This review is from: Love Divine: Charles.. (Audio CD)
A really great album. All of the tracks are Charles Wesley hymns put to new music by the artists that sing them. Not all the tracks are as good as the some, but the majority are very beautiful. There are some that we have used in our church, and others that are more suited to listening to.

PS. If you tend to like music with no drums, no electric guitars, and to be very traditional, you probably won't like this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended., 30 Jan. 2012
Please bear in mind that the authors are Christians, believe in the Bible, and write from this perspective.

In my opinion, this is the best book on Sex Education out there! The authors have found the right balance between being straightforward, honest and thorough without becoming crass or vulgar.

The authors recommend parents approaching this subject early in a child's life, consistently throughout their childhood and always truthfully. One of the main reasons the recommend starting early is so that the messages our children hear first, come from us - their parents.

They maintain Biblical principles throughout the book on modesty, saving sex for marriage (and they really talk about why, not just "or else you'll get pregnant"), the value of life, and the importance of honoring God with our bodies. This said, if you are not sympathetic with the Christian faith, there is still a wealth of help within this book that you can benefit from - how to talk to your children in age-appropriate ways, what information children need to know and when they need to know it, and answers to many questions parents and children have.

The book comes with 4 age-appropriate books to read with your child, that goes into age-appropriate material in a very accessible way. These have to be brought separately, but they are worth having. If you are nervous, or unsure how to begin a conversation, these books will prove essential.

If you are looking for books to help you talk to your children about sex, or want to learn how to counter the sexualized culture our society provides our children, or you want to learn about a Biblical and moral framework for these issues - then this book will be everything you are looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!, 30 Jan. 2012
I wanted a broom/dustpan and brush/mop set for my 2 year old daughter.

I chose this one, mostly because it seemed good value for money, and it really is. It's pretty much a small version of my real ones, the dustpan and brush really works!

In my opinion this would be perfect for under 7's, but for anyone older, the handles are probably too short.

Love Divine: The Songs Of Charles Wesley For Today's Generation
Love Divine: The Songs Of Charles Wesley For Today's Generation

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant update of old hymns, 26 Oct. 2011
This is a brilliant album, and I'm so thankful for these musicians doing the hard work of making these hymns more accessible.
I like every one of the songs, and we have already used a couple in Sunday morning service. I have brought all the music and it's all very simple to play. Although the album has the artists personal styles in the songs, they are all very simple and a joy to play. Our congregation has welcomed the new versions, and many newer Christians have commented at how much better they are for them than the old classics.
Bottom line - song lyrics last through cultures and generations, music doesn't - this album does a great job at making them accessible for 21st century Christians.

Also - I agree with the other review that it's a shame not all the verses are used - but you could obviously add them in when you are using them yourself.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very American Desserts, 13 Feb. 2011
This book is full of wonderful ideas, but all the measurements are in American format - which, I can actually live with because I brought a set of cups etc. so that it would be easier for me. However, there is a great proportion of ingrediants that you would either need to purchase in America or know the equivalents. For instance, graham crackers are used with many of the cheesecakes, but the ingrediant is listed as "9 crackers" not the weight, so it makes it very difficult to substitute.

I have American friends and family, and so I'm normally quite flexible, and work quite a few things out, but this book so heavily relied on all things American, that I would warn anyone before buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasitc devotionals for pre-schoolers, 24 July 2010
This is a fantastic book. It is basically a devotional book for pre-schoolers. It works in conjuntion with the Beginner's Bible for God. There is an introductory activity, a prayer, the Bible story, another prayer, a sticker, and other suggested activities. It takes me between 10 and 30 minutes depending on what optional activities we decide to do.

An example:
Starter - Choose from the following - Talk about large buildings. Build a tower out of bricks. Do a collage of a tower with lots of different pieces of paper.
Main section - Pray: Lord, thank you for your Bible, please help me to learn more about you today. Amen. Introduce the story: This is a true story from the Bible about how God is the greatest, not people. Read the Bible Story: The Tower of Babel (note that the Beginner's Bible is a fantastic Bible and has great pictures and just the right amount of words for 3yr olds). Ask a couple of questions: Who built the tower? (PEOPLE), Are people the greatest? (NO), Is God the greatest? (YES) Prayer: Thank you Lord that you are the greatest. Amen.

Just so no-one gets confused - This IS a Christian book, it is for parents who want to teach their children Bible stories from an overtly Chistian perspective.

In my opinion, one of the best resources for toddlers out there!

Parenting Is Your Highest Calling: And 8 Other Myths That Trap Us in Worry and Guilt
Parenting Is Your Highest Calling: And 8 Other Myths That Trap Us in Worry and Guilt
by Leslie Leyland Fields
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air!, 31 Mar. 2010
Amoungst a sea of books on how to parent, do more, and look after your children better, this book offers a fresh perspective. Instead of focusing on how, this book talks about the why's. Filled with godly and wise advice, Fields uses many Biblical stories to illustrate her points. She frees parents (especially aimed at mother's) from the common guilt we experience by demonstrating Christ's love and grace. The nine myths are:
Myth #1
"Having Children Will Make You Happy and Fulfilled" - Discovering God's Real Purpose in Giving Us Children.

Myth #2
"Nurturing Your Child is Natural and Instinctive" - Why Biblical Love is so Difficult to Live Out

Myth #3
"Parenting is Your Highest Calling" - How Pursuing God First Frees Us to Love Our Children More

Myth #4
"Good Parenting Leads to Happy Children" - Exchanging Shallow Hopes for God's Deeper Purposes

Myth #5
"If You Find Parenting Difficult, You must Not Be Following the Right Plan" - Learning to Rely on God Rather Than Formulas

Myth #6
"You Represent Jesus to Your Children" - How We Trap Ourselves in a Role We Weren't Meant to Play

Myth #7
"You Will Always Feel Unconditional Love for Your Children" - How Our False Ideas of Love Burden Us With Guilt

Myth #8
"Successful Parents Produce Godly Children" - The Danger of Making Too Much of Us and Too Little of God

Myth #9
"God Approves of Only One Family Design" - Why God is Not Limited by Imperfect Families

If I was to recommend one parenting book, it would be this one. In many ways, this book could be titled "The Theology of Parenting". It's american, but in no way offensive or irrelevent to English readers, she focuses on Biblical ways of thinking and we all need that!

5.0 out of 5 stars Her Mother's Hope, 31 Mar. 2010
This review is from: Her Mother's Hope (Paperback)
The infomation from Francine Rivers website:

"The first part of an unforgettable epic family saga about the sacrifices every mother makes for her daughter and the very nature of unconditional love. On the eve of the First World War, fiery Marta Schneider leaves Switzerland and her difficult childhood behind, determined to find a new life on her own terms. Barely out of her teens, Marta is haunted by a devastating loss. Marta becomes a hard working domestic who has little time to dwell on what might have been. Instead, she draws her strength from what could be. Then, Marta meets Niclas Waltert, a man just as determined as she to forge a better life in a new place. Marriage and motherhood bring both joy and heartbreak, as Marta must surrender her long-held ambitions for the sake of her husband and children. Only the strong survive and Marta is determined to raise a daughter as strong as she. But as Hildie reaches young womanhood and another war is fast approaching, those hopes become too heavy a burden for Hildie to bear. Born with a heart to serve others, Hildie pursues her calling as a nurse, something Marta can't understand. Marta's years of hardnosed parenting have left Hildie still hungry for her mother's love...and now for her mother's respect. Amid the drama of WWII, Hildie falls in love and begins a family of her own. She wants her daughter, Carolyn, never to doubt her love--but the challenges of life conspire against her vow and the only person who can come to her aid is the person she remains so desperate to please: Marta, her mother.

With hallmark touches of brilliant prose and gripping characterizations, Her Mother's Hope is a rich, moving epic about faith and dreams, heartache and disappointment, and ultimately the resilience and tenacity of love."
