1.0 out of 5 stars I must be missing something, 4 Oct. 2013
While I loved 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' I found 'Far Cry from Kensington' to be completely and utterly uninteresting and pointless. The writing is fine and there are a few good insights and turns of phrase, but the story and plot seem to go nowhere and nothing much happens that has any significance. And unless one is well-acquainted with the world of publishing, I'm not sure most of this book is relevant at all. I may be missing a deeper meaning here, but it was a real disappointment.

1.0 out of 5 stars a great disappointment, 20 Sept. 2013
This review is from: Foxes' Oven (Paperback)
The Borribles is my favorite book ever. However Foxes Oven is so highly unbelievable and the characters so under-developed, I cant believe it's by the same author. I felt nothing for any of the characters nor believed anything they did. It is well written and descriptive, which are the strong points, but the plot and the characters are not believable at all. And it ends so absurdly!

1.0 out of 5 stars huge disappointment, 23 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A dreadful movie version of an excellent book. the plot is only loosely followed and the acting is a joke. with excess melodrama and unbelieveable plot twists at every turn, i will be donating this to the charity shop after only 1 viewing. don't ruin your memories of this great book by watching this, it's bad on every level.

1.0 out of 5 stars ZERO STARS, 7 Oct. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am amazed that this is given any good reviews at all! At least half the acting is completely wooden and uninspired. It's hard to have any sympathy at all for many of the characters who simply do not provoke much feeling from their performances. Really, really bad acting. That's all I can say. After 1 viewing I will be donating this to a charity shop- not even selling it on Amazon, as I would feel guilty taking any money for this major disappointment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst book ever?, 19 April 2012
A contender. Melodramatic, unrealistic, cliche, painfully written, gets more unbelievable with every twist of the plot, highly doubtful in its description of the sisters' behaviour, and not one character is particularly likeable or believable on any level. Spare yourself
