ZOOB GALAX-Z Astrotech Rover Construction Set
ZOOB GALAX-Z Astrotech Rover Construction Set
Price: £23.30

5.0 out of 5 stars Create the ultimate vehicle for a Zoobonaut!, 19 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Construction sets are always great for a kid’s imagination and the ZOOB GALAX-Z Astrotech Rover Construction Set is no different. It allows four different types of vehicle to be made - a Retriever, Escape Pod, Satellite or AstroTech Rover. All four vehicle types are very different from one another and aren’t at all ’samey’, so there’s plenty of scope for entertainment.

But what really gives this longevity is the fact that the construction set allows free-form vehicles to made as well, so a child doesn’t have to stick to the four pre-set models and can completely let their imagination run wild.

Once constructed, the vehicles are sturdy, there’s nothing flimsy or cheap feeling about this set, it’s all very well put together with nice attention to detail, so lots of fun to be had!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of steam power and very easy to use, 12 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The first thing I liked about this iron is the colour scheme, the light purple finish is a very nice touch and makes a change from the dull colours that irons normally come in.

The iron itself is quite light and comfortable to hold, so prolonged ironing is no problem. It also only takes 2 minutes to heat up. The OptimalTEMP feature is superb, just a single setting for all fabrics, this simplifies and speeds up the ironing process enormously and I was able to flick between all kinds of garments without have to adjust any settings.

Thanks to the wonderfully smooth soleplate, minimal effort is needed to get the perfect crease-free finish. In addition the steam pressure this iron can achieve is very high so even the most stubborn creases should be easy to deal with.

The iron’s power cable is a very generous length and handily folds away around the base of the water tank, making storage of the iron nice and easy.

The Philips GC8643/30 is definitely one of the best and easy to use steam irons I have used, highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ironing has never been so hassle-free, 12 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The first thing I noticed about this iron is how light and easy to hold it is, making prolonged ironing a much more comfortable experience. This is further enhanced by the superbly smooth soleplate which means the iron almost floats through clothes and gets rid of the creases with minimal effort.

My favourite feature though is OptimalTEMP, which effectively means just one temperature setting is required as the iron automatically adjusts itself for all garment types. At first I did wonder how the iron would adapt when ironing more fragile fabrics, but it correctly adjusted the temperature and I was very impressed by the intelligence of the OptimalTEMP system.

This is an excellent iron and for the self-adjusting temperature feature alone it’s worth the price as it makes ironing so much quicker and less laborious, which is no bad thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Old school fun for the family, 10 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is very much one of those old school board games, no electronic gimmicks, just a board, 6 coloured counters for each person or team, the egg-timer, and cards containing hit songs form every decade from the 60s onwards.

No instructions are really needed, the simplicity is what makes this game so great for adults and kids. The only slight caveat is that younger kids won’t know many songs from the older decades, so this can be a sticking point, though obviously it’s a great opportunity to educate them on those great musical decades!

This really is a great game for the family or as a party game after a few drinks, loads of fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerhouse finance application, 9 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Sage 50 Accounts Plus is certainly a feature-packed finance package and allows complete financial control of a business due to a whole load of sophisticated features. Though, inevitably, this means you need to invest some time learning it as it has so many features to get acquainted with.

This version has multi-user capabilities, supporting up to 2 users, though I only needed it for single user use. VAT management is fully supported, including the ability to submit VAT returns to HMRC online. The inclusion of the Sage Drive means the accounts can now be shared in real-time with your accountant, which is a very useful and powerful feature.

The interface is well designed and is actually quite simply laid out, making all of Sage’s features easy to navigate. Reporting is excellent and generating detailed invoices for customers is very straightforward. Product price lists, invoices and statements can also be created along with the ability to print cheques.

If you’ve used a previous version of Sage 50 Accounts then you’ll take to this very quickly, but if you’ve come from a rival finance package then it will take you a little while to adapt to the Sage way of doing things. The help provided is excellent, however, as is Sage's technical support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very high build quality and comfort, 6 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a superbly constructed car seat, everything about is reassuringly sturdy and secure. It can easily be fitted front-facing or rear-facing, and has an adjustable height. It has padding everywhere and is extremely comfortable for the child while still being strong and durable.

The great thing about it is its flexibility, it’s very adjustable, meaning it can be used for many age groups from baby to small child, so it’s longevity is superb, highly recommended.

Asterix on the Warpath: Pop-Up Book
Asterix on the Warpath: Pop-Up Book
by Rene Goscinny
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £26.94

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully crafted popup book, 6 Nov. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This book is a visual feast and is a wonderful gift for a child. Each double-page spread contains a highly detailed and colourful scene from an Asterix story and you just marvel at the level of intricacy and the creativity that has gone into each popup, they really are a joy to behold.

The only slight disappointment is that each popup isn’t connected, so the book isn’t a coherent story that a child can read, it’s just a series of individual scenes. But the scenes are so wonderful to look at that the lack of story isn’t a huge issue as the level of detail on each popup means a child can easily get immersed in each one and enjoy the spectacle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very convenient and easy to use, 30 Oct. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is the first time I’ve ever used a TENS machine, having always used traditional medication for joint pain. The Philips PR3093 comes with an excellent manual that explains how the unit works and, after doing the initial out-the-box charge, I was up and running very quickly.

To administer the TENS treatment, it’s just a matter of sticking the adhesive electrodes to the area of your body you want soothing, in my case it was around my knees. The TENS units are then attached for the electrodes and then the pulse sensation required is controlled from the remote control unit. The remote control is wireless so it’s very convenient to use and the 8 pre-set programmes can be set with a simple click of the switch on the controller.

I definitely found the gentle pulse that the unit applied to my knees to be soothing. It took a little while to get used to the sensation but after prolonged use I noticed a real easing of the pain in my knee joints and the stiffness was also relieved, so I’m very pleased with the unit and will continue to use it as alternative therapy for my joints.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another superb Sonicare toothbrush, 30 Oct. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I’ve always been a big fan of the Philips Sonicare range of electric toothbrushes, though recently I’ve been using a different make. So I was very curious to see how this Sonicare measured up with my current electric toothbrush.

The Sonicare HX9171 is certainly great looking and well made, it oozes quality and the toothbrush is very comfortable to hold and grip. It has 3 settings for different degrees of intensity, though the ‘every day’ setting is the one I use as it has the best balance of thoroughness and speed, I found 2 minutes of brushing made my teeth come up very white and fresh.

In fact considering how thorough the clean is I was amazed how gentle and mild it was on my teeth and gums, even at the higher setting it wasn’t at all uncomfortable and only needed a small amount of pressure to get my teeth looking lovely and clean.

The ultraviolet sanitizer is a great idea and something I’ve not seen before on a toothbrush, it’s certainly reassuring to know that it’s being sterilised of any residual germs.

I’m delighted with the Sonicare HX9171, its build quality is absolute top notch and the clean it gives is fantastic. I do think it’s a little expensive though, that’s my only caveat, but overall I definitely recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars True wireless-AC performance, 8 Oct. 2015
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I’ve used a number of wi-fi range extenders in the past to eliminate wireless ‘deadzones’ in the house and I’ve found them to be very effective. I am currently using a wireless-N extender which works very well but I’ve always been frustrated by the fact it cannot support the wireless-AC that my router transmits at, effectively meaning we take a performance hit. So I was very much looking forward to seeing what difference the Linksys RE6700 Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender would make, being a wireless-AC enabled.

Setting up is easy and the same as with all range extenders, plug the extender into a power socket and either use the quicker WPS feature with your router or just run an Ethernet cable from the extender to your laptop/PC, connect to the extender and configure it with your wireless settings and save the config. I chose the latter manual method as in the past I’ve found WPS to be unreliable and, ironically, usually takes longer that manually configuring it! This may be my router of course, rather than the extender, but with the Linksys RE6700 I just avoided WPS and used the Ethernet cable route. It took less than a minute to get it connected to my wireless network, setup was very straightforward.

Wireless reception has always been at its worst in our upstairs back bedroom, and this is where I currently have my wireless-N extender. So I took this out and replaced it with the Linksys RE6700 and immediately started testing it. I always find the best test for wireless performance is to watch a 1080p movie with lots of action scenes as this really tests throughput to the limit. So I played a 1080p MKV file from my back bedroom and can report I got wonderfully smooth playback with no stuttering whatsoever. I then copied a large file and played the movie at the same time, and still no stuttering, very impressive!

Wireless-AC is significantly faster than wireless-N is real world scenarios, and coupled with the Linksys RE6700’s Beamforming technology, means I now get maximum wireless performance throughout the house, an excellent product.
