2.0 out of 5 stars Long, boring, shockingly violent, 13 Mar. 2014
This review is from: Man of Steel (DVD)
I guess they get a 12 certificate as there isn't any gore. But there is a shocking amount of violence with long battles that destroy chunks of the city and would surely have resulted in the death of thousands if it was for real. Is this suitable viewing for children? It's too boring for adults.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 13 Mar. 2014
This review is from: Ender's Game (DVD)
It was always going to be a difficult book to make into a film, so I wasn't that surprised to see how disappointing this is. The book began one of the best sci fi series I've read, so perhaps the film would always be in the shadow of that.

2.0 out of 5 stars too expensive, 9 Jun. 2013
I wouldn't have bothered with this if I had realised later chapters would be £0.67. That makes the whole book far too expensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Six cups = two mugs, 30 May 2011
A nicely made and posh looking polished steel coffee maker. Being double wall, it keeps the coffee much hotter than a glass one. Bear in mind that "six cups" refers to pretty small cups. I drink coffee by the mug. This Cafetiere will fill two good sized mugs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something new every day, 7 July 2009
I tried two other guitar books and two DVDs before I discovered this book. The difference here is that there's a new exercise for each day and the exercises build into a varied collection that you can use every time you practice. When the author introduces something a little more difficult like three-finger chords, the next day's exercise will be something for the other hand like picking, which gives you more time to get to grips with the chords and less risk of falling behind. It's an excellent way to learn from a book and I recommend this one highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best 32" Widescreen at any price, 26 Mar. 2008
I did a lot of research before I decided on the Sony. Shopping around showed Amazon has the best price and next day delivery for £8.99. The price seems to have dropped by well over £100 since I bought mine. Good value before, now a bargain.

The Last Colony
The Last Colony
by John Scalzi
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars First class SciFi, 11 Jan. 2008
This review is from: The Last Colony (Hardcover)
Scalzi closes the John Perry series with a book as fresh and readable as the first (Old Man's War). The author has that rare gift of writing in a way which is so effortless to read, you might not notice how good it is unless you pause to think about it. Scalzi can create both believable intergalactic political intrigue and intimate interpersonal relationships. The pace keeps the pages turning and it is a difficult book to put down. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile addition to the wonderful Civilization IV, 22 April 2007
Warlords makes Civilization a little more violent (the clue is in the name). It is easier and more rewarding to win by domination and conquest. When I was starting to tire of the original, Warlords added another six months or more of playtime. Excellent value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Huge play value, 22 April 2007
Unlike many games, I have played this again and again. After over a year, I'm starting to tire of it, but some games go stale in days or weeks. There are a huge number of variations and no two games are the same. The Warlords expansion pack adds another six months to the play time. This is my No1 favourite game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is that all it does?, 22 April 2007
Failing to find what this game does, I resorted to reading the manual. Where I discovered I had actually found 90% of what Electroplankton offers. It simply isn't enough. Very little play value, and not particularly entertaining. This is a great shame as the idea of entertainment software which isn't exactly a game and which is gentle and utterly non-violent is a good one, but this package doesn't take the idea anything like far enough. Please don't give up Nintendo, but please try a lot harder.
