5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read!, 6 April 2014

Once again Ben has written an entertaining and engrossing volume on the Underground, it's history and workings.
I would heartily recommend this book as a "primer" for anyone with an interest in the London Underground as it's well written and by no means gets "bogged down" as some as some other writers tend to do!
These heavier volumes should only be attempted after reading this!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent read!, 4 April 2014

I was a despatch rider during Gulf One, and was surprised to find reading this account of an earlier DR, that not much was different in those days of WW2 to the procedures of my generation! I realised that some things always remain the same. (Weather and traffic hazards for a start!)
I heartily recommend this volume to anybody who was either a DR, or has an interest in motorcycles, to read about conflict from a slightly different angle!

5.0 out of 5 stars Second trip down the tube!, 16 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book as it is humorous and entertaining in its entirety!
This second volume is even more so!
I can't wait for the intrepid ladies to write about their next trip!
This book is a must read, especially as previous books about the Underground can be very dry.
This is how all travelogue and history books should be written, as laughter is a very good teacher.
I will also adopt the good ladies' motto, "Silliness is next to Godliness!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Under London, 8 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This entertaining volume is about the diverse subterranean goings on through the stratus of history that is London, it's style is jaunty and entertaining and at the same time educational in a way that makes you learn but not realise you're learning, because you are having too much fun to notice!
I couldn't put it down.
Recommended reading, even if you don't usually read this subject matter!
You will be educated and entertained by this excellent book!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read!, 5 Mar. 2014

What was England really like, one hundred years ago, on the eve of the Great War? A war that my Grandfather went to as an under aged soldier behind a Lewis Gun.
What kind of Great Britain was he and many other people's grandpas fighting for?
And did that Britain deserve that kind of loyalty and sacrifice?
Read this and find out the answers to some of these questions!

5.0 out of 5 stars Me? A Londoner? Gosh! I didn't realise!, 28 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well I did really, but this mans unusual journey, with its quirky perspectives on London and the indispensable Tube system makes you realise the magic that is London, and the often unrealised potential of maps to make you into a deity! Well, to understand that bit, you'll have to read the book, because that is the whole point of this review.
I enjoyed reading this extraordinary work and hereby accuse Mr Mark Mason of literature in the best tradition!
This book has been not only a journey of the author but in a way a journey for me into my twenties as a Londoner working as a Dispatch Rider for the BBC, and so as well as being an entertaining read but also a zen journey into my own past. Through the magic of his journey, Mark will set you on one of your own!
This amazing book should be compulsory content for your Kindle or e-Reader of your choice! A "must buy".

5.0 out of 5 stars A very technical read, 20 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a very technical read,as it contains a lot of mechanical information about the buses and commercial vehicles built by AEC! Having said that,I loved it because it had lots of technical information, and I'm an old bus mechanic from the now defunct Great Yarmouth Transport, in which I did my apprenticeship! I would thoroughly recommend this book if you like your British heavy Buses and Lorries!
