Guitars: A Celebration of Pure Mojo
Guitars: A Celebration of Pure Mojo

1.0 out of 5 stars Size does matter! (Excellent idea, executed so poorly)., 21 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First thing to note is that this 'book' is only 15cm x 10cm (that is 6'' x 4'' in old money).
Next, I have to applaud the concept - excellent photos of beautiful guitars - but wonder what combination of constraints conspired to make it all go so horribly wrong.

Does anyone really want great photos of mouthwatering guitars split across the binding of a small book?
There are so many instances of the guitar body being on one page, the split of the book spine then the guitar neck on the opposite page. This book will not lay flat unless you break the spine.

Very simple and effective to use - once you work it out as there are no instructions. A quick trip online soon nets a few instruction videos posted by helpful folks. Now I can string (and unstring) my bow bows quickly and without the strain and pain.

1.0 out of 5 stars If this was at school it'd be the class wimp., 7 Sept. 2015

As you'd expect, the balm is pretty solid in the tin and you have to coax a little out with the heat of your finger. However, once viscous and applied to the moustache it doesn't firm-up again so you're left with oily hair that won't retain any shape. Pretty useless. The smell is a bit waxy and neither particularly orange nor bergamot (like Earl Grey tea) but it is not unpleasant. This stuff should be wonderful but isn't.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for., 22 Sept. 2014

My mum used to say "you buy cheap, you pay dear". Apart from questioning her grasp of English, I also worried about her grip on reality but it turns out she was correct - at least in the sentiment, if not in the grammar.

This item doesn't feel shoddily manufactured when you take it from the carton but our one didn't survive the shipping process intact. And yet it didn't arrive broken! During transit the box could have taken a knock which 'undid' one of the plastic retaining tabs keeping the inner workings attached to the outer casing.

So the first few times we tried to make the thing work - bearing in mind it isn't a complicated machine that only has one button - the cutting blades would not turn. Eventually we noticed the little catch that is supposed to be pushed down when you turn the lid into place was being pushed out, and after we'd unplugged the grinder and attacked it with a screwdriver, that pesky plastic retaining tab that had been shunted out of place clicked back in and viola!

A stringed instrument larger than a violin.

No, hang on a minute I'll try that again.

Voila! That's better.

The fact that the lid, casing and saftey tab are all plastic means the thing doesn't always work but we can grind beans because we know the secret. You need to make sure to fit the lid so the safety tab goes down and not out. Unfortunately, that tab won't last long so if you need to grind beans, spices, etc every day, I'd buy a more robust machine.

Hope this helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best album ever but the best Sha-na-na album!, 6 Nov. 2013

This review is from: Night Is Still Young (Audio CD)
When you see the rest iof the Sha-na-na catalogue you could be forgiven for thinking they were simply a rock 'n' roll covers band. This album disproves that but unfortunatley, despite a cracking single in 'Bounce In Your Buggy', the haunting 'Sunday Morning Radio', the wistful 'Sleeping on a Song' and a handful of other top notch songs, the group returned to 'covers only mode' after recording this album.

That said, this album does boast one of the best covers of Sea Cruise I've ever heard.

This a genuine oddity in their canon and one to be appreciated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of good early footage but peters out towards the end., 13 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are a lot of cut and paste Bolan DVDs out there but this isn't one of them. Well researched and compiled, it tells Marc's story from before the start to after the end. My only gripe is there's an awful lot of Tyrannosaurus Rex then the Glam years don;t get quite so much detail. Maybe the producers thought we'd already know that part of the story but it leaves this DVD sadly wanting.

Good to see Tony Visconti talk us through some of the multi-track master tapes and get to hear each track.
Steve Harley's comments are worth the price alone.

This watch looks great and for the price it is good value but it is light and not very sturdy. Be careful when closing the cover and the back plate fell off of the one I got. Easy enough to clip it back in place but be careful.

If you're looking for a film about Don Quixote, this is not the one for you. If however, you're looking for a film that documents the trials of a team trying to overcome what sometimes seem like insurmountable odds to bring a dream to the screen, then there is no better than this.

I'd like to say it was a joy to watch but in truth joy only got a small part of the screen time, alongside, pain, illness, natural disaster and palpable frustration, to name but a few of the diverse elements. This is much more real than any of the docu-soaps with which we're being constantly bombarded.

If you have no idea what it takes to bring a film from book to screen, than this is well worth watching and I for one (and I'm sure there are many others) look forward to the day Terry Gilliam realises his vision and we can all watch the film, not just the documetary.
