5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest Sonic Youth book out there., 25 May 2008
at last, a book that does the legacy of Sonic Youth justice.
Steve Chick covers 25 years of one the modern greats of rock music.
Fantastically well written, Chicks heart-swelling love for the band (as opposed to most souless ghost-written `rock biographies' simply done for the $$$ - hello Neil Strauss !!! ) forms the basis of the book whilst laying down an passionate yet diplomatic tone of informative, thoroughly well-researched writing. Imagine Micheal Azerrad's OUR BAND COULD BE YOUR LIFE chapter on SY elongated to 300 hundred pages.
spanning the bands New York roots of 'new wave' and avant scene beginnings through to laying down the foundations of the nineties 'Alt.Rock' boom. a fitting tribute to the career one the most important rock bands of our time...so far .also features a great inset of photographs.

~crikey !!! is anyone gonna give this band 'the break' that they deserve. i'm getting bored and frustrated of -
1. telling people how much i love this (and their other lps) album and them having no clue who they are...
and 2. people who DO know who they are calling them "the best kept secret" or "really under-rated" or "should be massive" etc, etc...
i was fortunate enough to get a copy of this lp yonks ago and for the last three months, listen after listen, it just gets~~ better.
Little Brian Eno/Boards of Canada bits blend in and out of big, loud, layered roaring anthems that U2 or Oasis would kill for...
it's a nice coherent variety that gives you a new favourite track each time you listen.
they've been comparred to Flamming Lips, Doves,Orbital, Primal Scream,My Bloody Valentine,Spaceman 3, Spiritualized, but Six by Seven have forged their own sound and style, and you'd be a fool to miss out...i'm not a jounalist, can you tell ?
p.s if you call~~ yourself a fan of the band get a review of this LP up here too.~

Why isn’t this record ripping the holy mutha from every set of speakers of every stereo across this poxy western world !!!!? I dunno, maybe it’s because it’s goes against the grain of most of today’s music by being truthful, witty, tuneful and sonically offensive. Or maybe it’s because there are so many uncleared samples on this record that Bomb 20 is rightfully scared about it reaching the masses (ie.everyone from ‘Huey Lewis and News’ through to ‘Dolly Parton’ to ‘Dead Prez’) and getting his ass sonically sued.
Either way, this Digital Hardcore DJ Shadow (sorry, that’s the best I can do with musical comparisons) rocks like a Bast.
