2.0 out of 5 stars Fine when it worked... just didn't work for long!, 18 Nov. 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This wind up baby mobile initially proved to be a useful product, attaching securely to the cot with minimal effort with the bright colours and gentle lullabies working as they should in soothing and stimulating baby. The mobile works by manually winding it up so no batteries are required and winding to full seems to make the lullabies sound and mobile to rotate for approximately a minute (purely an estimation - haven't timed it) before running out of momentum completely. The volume was more than adequate for the mono melodies this mobile produces. However, the reason for only two stars is the apparent build quality not being up to standard - the wind up function broke unexpectedly within one month of first using the mobile under very little duress (in other words, not excessively wound up) which rendered this product almost redundant as it neither sounds nor rotates any more and therefore an alternative replacement is now on order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality but expensive, 18 May 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a comfortable, well made and versatile backpack which contains removable compartmental insert offering great flexibility and adjustable shoulder straps that are suitably padded to offer excellent levels of comfort. There is also a third strap that clips around the front of the waist meaning the bag fits securely even when running (which I've put to the test, running several miles to work in the morning with a backpack full of fresh clothes and the like - a regular backpack moves around far too much without a third strap). This backpack can also be used by avid photographers to store their valuables courtesy of the removable internal padded camera inlay. The part of the bag that rests on the back is padded to offer additional comfort and also provide some air flow although a relatively hot and sweaty back is still a regular occurrence after prolonged use as with any other backpack (and I'm referring to regular use, i.e. walking with it on). There is an additional zipped compartment on the back which is surprisingly spacious much like the rest of the bag - I'm impressed by just how much you can fit into this bag. I decided to hold off on the review until after sustained use and after six months or so of regular use it appears very durable and well made. Overall, it is an expensive purchase and this would put it out of my price range ordinarily; I'm still not sure it is worth the current asking price as it seems a lot to spend on a bag but there is no denying this is an excellent quality backpack.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable, well made and versitile for smaller devices, 18 May 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a comfortable, well made and versatile shoulder bag which contains removable inner compartment offering great flexibility and adjustable shoulder strap that is of a decent length and offers good levels of comfort via the padded shoulder rest. The bag is nicely padded and is very well secured by Velcro and by two plastic clips to provide a good protection for your valuables. It is quite a chunky shoulder bag yet isn't deep enough to carry a larger laptop but it is a fantastic bag for smaller laptops, tablets, cameras or other portable devices (I've used it to carry a PS Vita and games for example and for this purpose it is perfect). There are also two small zipped compartments to store small accessories in. Overall, a nice little shoulder bag.

G Data Mobile Security (Android)
G Data Mobile Security (Android)

4.0 out of 5 stars G Data - Android, 18 July 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Didn't encounter too many problems with installation although certainly could do with more in the way of instructions. Offers real-time protection when surfing the web, scans for malware in malicious apps and can protect your phone if lost or stolen, although how this works is up for debate due to lack of instructions. It offers the features you would expect - there are free apps on Play Store that offer a good basic anti-virus protection, such as AVG, but for a fee you do get a more complete suite of features.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seamless, efficient & comprehensive protection, 20 May 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I'm not familiar with G Data prior to this receiving this product but I am happy with how this security software performs. Installation was quick and easy once I had uninstalled my outdated protection and I am satisfied with the level of protection offered for internet surfing, mail, banking, data backup and a host of other reassuring features.

What impresses the most is that despite offerring a comprehensive suite of features it doesn't slow down the computer, even when performing a detailed virus scan, and it runs seamlessly in the background with no annoying pop-ups like I've had with some previous security software constantly asking for permissions. The performance of my computer is never compromised despite having impressive features such as offering two virus scan engines for optimal virus detection and recognising suspicious behaviour of new viruses - amdmittedly, I got these two features off the back of the box but it shows that this product does do a lot in the background without me realising and that's exactly how I want my security software to perform.

Review:

This is a stylish stereo speaker with iPod dock, Bluetooth functionality and a 3.5mm connection that offers multiple ways of playing music through the speaker. The most impressive feature is the Bluetooth - initial setup was very quick and easy, made even easier thanks to the clear and concise instructions. Now paired with my smartphone it streams music to the speaker flawlessly with absolutely no lag whatsoever. It is also worth noting that the device has excellent range - I have tried the speaker in a different room to the device from which the music is streaming and even on a different floor in the house, always without a hitch.

The speaker can reach decent volumes courtesy of its 15W RMS output without compromising sound quality. The speaker performs well regardless of the genre, therefore offering versatility for those who listen to multiple styles of music - I have used it for acoustic and soft rock / pop music as well as hard rock and metal and the results are pleasing. The bass is very good, and can be improved using the EQ functions on the remote but never over-powers the mids or trebles. It's worth noting that the remote contains the bulk of the playback options with the unit itself just containing a power button and volume control.

Overall, this is an impressive speaker with excellent Bluetooth connectivity and a nice minimalistic style. There is no LCD display; instead functions are indicated by way of the subtle LED light (which changes colour depending on the use, for example red for standby, blue for Bluetooth, green for when the iPod dock is in use and yellow for when a 3.5mm jack is connected) - the light subtly illuminates on the bottom of the unit and really adds to the simple but appealing aesthetics of the unit.

Review:

This is a decent portable Bluetooth speaker that offers a great degree of portability combined with reasonable (but not exceptional) sound quality. The speaker fits into the palm of my hand and comes with a soft protective pouch to store it in, making it easy to transport safely. Upon setting up I did initially experience some difficulty in pairing the device with my smart phone, despite following the clear and concise instructions to the tee, but now it has paired successfully the Bluetooth functionality works flawlessly with absolutely no lag whatsoever when streaming music.

As mentioned, the sound is reasonable thanks to a very capable speaker output of 3W RMS, which I have tried at full volume and it can belt out music at a decent volume ably filling a standard sized living room with minimal distortion. The sound isn't exceptional as the dynamic range is somewhat limited due to the small nature of the speaker; bass and trebles are sufficient without being extraordinary. This is also a mono unit which is slightly disappointing.

The most notable feature is of course the Bluetooth functionality which I am very impressed with, offering fully wireless music streaming as the speaker itself runs of a rechargeable lithium battery. The battery cannot be accessed as it is securely housed within the unit but despite the drawbacks of this (you cannot change the battery) I personally prefer this, as the lithium battery holds its charge well and AA batteries usually leave me wanting - I imagine Bluetooth streaming would be quite intensive on battery depletion. It is also worth noting that the device has excellent range - I have tried the speaker in a different room from the device from which the music is streaming and even on different floor in the house, always without a hitch.

The unit also has a 3.5mm connection meaning it is possible to connect a device that doesn't have Bluetooth using a double-ended 3.5mm jack. I have tried this input method with my Sony MP3 and it works as one would expect. The unit also has a micro USB slot, which is primarily used for connecting the charger (included).

Overall, an impressive portable speaker, despite a few minor shortcomings, that can also be used as a speaker phone for voice calls (on-board mic included - the speaker phone is simple to operate and sounds clear).

Sennheiser HD 218 Closed Back On-Ear Stereo Headphones - Black
Sennheiser HD 218 Closed Back On-Ear Stereo Headphones - Black

1.0 out of 5 stars Where is the bass?, 23 Feb. 2013
I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD202 headphones a while back and have praised them for their excellent bass and very reasonable price point. I opted to get a pair of these (HD218) more recently from a popular supermarket as they were half their usual selling price and I wanted a pair that were a bit more portable than the HD202. Going by my excellent user experience with HD202 and the promise of dynamic bass on the box for these, this sealed the deal for me. However, what a mistake this purchase was.

First and foremost, where is the bass? These headphones sound awfully flat with almost non-existent bass.... so much for dynamic!!! The sound quality is poor and also comes through far too quiet meaning I have to increase the volume on my device to high levels as well as attempting to use my device's on-board software to boost the bass (which just makes th headphones sound worse in all honesty). I have tried these headphones on a variety of devices - iPod, Sony MP3, my smartphone and through my laptop - the results are poor on all of them with regards to sound fidelity and bass reproduction.

The headphones are very light but they also have a tendancy to slip off the ear therefore severely diminishing their practicability; I don't want to be constantly adjusting these while out and about. One positive is that by being closed back on ear headphones they do a reasonable job of blocking outside ambient noise. However, I can't hide my disappointment with these overall.

Is one star too harsh? I just get no enjoyment listening to music through these so they have been left to rot on a shelf somewhere, therefore I feel a one star rating for my user experience is fully warranted. Bitterly disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, bass!, 23 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For the very modest price these are on sale for, you will not find any better. For years I have been looking for a relatively inexpensive set of headphones that can offer that seemingly impossible feat - bass! Most of the headphones I have tried in the past have disappointed me by offering minimal bass, often sounding flat as a result. Not with these bad boys! The bass is excellent, deep if perhaps a bit boomy for some tastes (not mine). Importantly, the bass is complimented by a decent range of mids and trebles to give a rich sound.

These headphones are of the closed-back varierty, meaning they block out a significant portion of outside noise and also prevent excessive noise leakage. They cup over the ear and fit snugly without being too tight. I have found they can interfere with glasses wearing to a certain extent as the cups are quite large and cover the entire ear (although there are certainly larger headphones avaialable; I have a pair of Sony wireless that are much larger and more cumbersome to wear), although they are very light and therefore do remain relatively comfortable even for more prolonged periods (although the ears can get a bit warm).

These might feel a bit plasticky for some but this is reflected in the modest price and also their lightweight nature, two definite positives. The wire is particularly long but there is a very simplistic winder included that you can use to wrap your wire around and fix to your belt if you so wish (it is just a piece of plastic in itself). Despite the length of the wire it is rarely becomes too tangled (a real pet peeve for me is having to untangle wires inexplicably tied in knots). Overall an excellent set of headphones that are well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and fully featured, 22 Feb. 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Packed full of features and with a user friendly interface this is a decent piece of software that does everything I could possibly want of it and more. The software has worked fine for me, no issues burning discs like I have experienced on previous Roxio software. It can be a bit sluggish at times but this can be forgiven due to the amount of content on offer here. An excellent package and includes Adobe Photoshop Elements which you can apportion for a third of the price right out the box; take into account the comprehensive list of other features and this really is a worthwhile purchase.
