4.0 out of 5 stars This is a good manual focus lens for it's price, 12 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a good manual focus lens for it's price. The focus ring is smooth and easy to handle and the lens itself is not as heavy as my other manual focus 500-1000mm lens. It is a manual focus lens and given the fixed F at 6.3 and shallow depth of field it is paramount that you first use the diopter adjustment function of your camera so the finder image is crisp and clear when the image is in focus. When you are used to automatic focus lenses it is easy to forget the importance of this diopter adjustment(especially if you wear glasses).
Tripods would help to stabilize the image but if you are taking fast moving wild birds increasing the ISO may be helpful to increase the shutter speed and minimize blur from moving objects or free hand shooting(It is generally safe to say if you have a 500mm lens, a shutter speed of 1/500 seond would minimize blurry images although at 1/125 or 1/250 I have managed reasonable images).
I use the lens with Av mode(aperture priority mode) for my canon camera and seems to work well with a high ISO at 1600 you can obtain good shutter speeds of 1/2500 to 1/4000 in good lighting conditions which is good when taking pictures of fast moving wild birds.
All in all, I think this lens does need some skill and stability to get crisp images but for the price of the lens it does a great job.

Saunders Equine Formulary, 1e
Saunders Equine Formulary, 1e
by Derek C. Knottenbelt OBE BVM&S DVM&S Dip ECEIM MRCVS
Edition: Paperback
Price: £51.99

4.0 out of 5 stars A great handbook for veterinary surgeons, 16 Jun. 2010
This handbook contains concise yet very useful information relevant to equine practitioners.
It covers reference values, diagnostic tests(eg.nerve blocks),drugs used in equine medicine, and other clinical aids such as ageing and bandaging techniques.
The only drawback is that there are occasionally wrong or omitted words in the text and tables.
eg.p63 0.5% solution of epinephrine X > 0.5% solution of phenylephrine,p64 mydriasis X > miosis
p6 Table1.2 Word "EDTA" is omitted from the top of the far left column.
Apart from these kind of errors this handbook is still invaluable and highly recommended for all practitioners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great veterinary dictionary, 6 May 2010
This is a great veterinary dictionary which includes concise veterinary information relevant to the UK.
I also own the Saunders comprehensive veterinary dictionary which covers more veterinary terms and has colour pictures but I personally prefer the Black's veterinary dictionary. The Saunders dictionary gives only the definition of a veterinary term.In comparison the Black's dictionary also offers an in-depth but concise explanation of each term and I found this quite helpful to grasp the essence of it.
I would strongly recommend this dictionary to any veterinary student.

Horse Anatomy: Easy-To-Understand and Comprehensive (Cadmos Horse Guides)
Horse Anatomy: Easy-To-Understand and Comprehensive (Cadmos Horse Guides)
by Anke Ruesbueldt
Edition: Paperback

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly presented handbook, 6 May 2010
I think this book has poorly presented the essence of basic horse anatomy.
It might be better if they put examples of common clinical problems related to each specific body system(eg.Heaves,EIPH or laryngeal hemiplegia for the respiratory system, exertional rhabdomyolysis for the musculoskeletal system etc.).In that way,you can understand how and what can go wrong in each body system as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent handbook of veterinary obstetrics, 6 May 2010
This is a great handbook which covers farm animals(cow, ewe, goat, sow),small animals(dog, cat) and the horse(It also briefly describes the management of dystocia in other species-eg.egg retention in cage birds).
It mainly deals with the management of dystocia and postparturient problems in these species with many illustrations and flow charts.
