This Danish series is superb and totally compulsive viewing. I cannot wait for saturday night to know what is going to unfold next. Fortunately BBC3 are showing two 50 minute episodes back to back as one episode passes far too quiickly for me.The story has three main threads, the family of mudered Nana Birk Larsson, the female police detective and the main contender for the Mayorship of the city. Each thread intertwines and and unfolds each week and tensions build. You become totally absorbed in each twist and turn and thoroughly engage with all the main characters who are brilliantly portrayed. There is no gimmicky camerawork or overpowering characters,it is all understated meticulous and totally tension building. Each time you think the killer is unmasked another twist takes you off on another journey. No ridiculous plot lines or change of pace, just the slow but sure tension as the story moves towards its conclusion. Drama at its best. I am a great fan of the early Prime Suspect series and this is easily a contender to knock that off my number one spot.

This review is from: The Promise [DVD] (DVD)
This series is being shown on Channel 4 on Sunday nights and is nearing the final episode. I was totally hooked after the first installment. The two story lines take place over 60 years apart when a young woman starts to read the diary of her dying grandfather. She is visiting with a friends family in Israel. The story covers her grandfathers British army service in Palestine in 1948 and goes from modern day Israel and back to 1948. It is also a fascinating history lesson on the politics of that time in the middle east. The characters are engaging and their stories complex and emotional. Beautifully produced and outstanding acting.

After accidently tuning in to the first epsiode and just leaving it on channel as there was nothing else I wanted to watch, fifteen minutes later I was hooked. This crime drama draws you in so subtly that when the episode ends you are desperate to know what happens next. Luckily the BBC are showing two episodes of 55 mins each Saturday. The acting is superb the characters engage you totally. From the distraught family whose daughter has been murdered to the complex life of the lead female detective and the political manouvers of another lead character Troels, you are totally absorbed and the episodes pass in a flash. Totally addictive viewing at its best. I cannot wait until the next episodes . A series that I look forward to buying when the DVD comes out.
