5.0 out of 5 stars Just the Thing!, 12 Nov. 2010
Bought this for my 7yr old son to use alongside his lessons on Tme in Yr 2. Hopefully it will boost his confidence with maths too.
The book is basic but well laid out. Some of the exercises use the stickers supplied and they are fun and colourful.
The book builds from the idea of 'before and after' (eg 'do you turn on a tap before or after you wash your hands?')to learning the clockface, counting on in 5 mins, telling the o'clocks/quarter of an hour/half an hour, the 24 hour clock and plenty of practice exercises besides.
For the price it's excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable and Absorbing, 12 Nov. 2010
Not only is it interesting to hear Freud's conversations with Gayford which are entertaining and absorbing(ranging from his outspoken opinions on Raphael and Leonardo, colourful characters from his past, his working methods, previous models, his relationship with Francis Bacon to what is for dinner/lunch) but it's also very interesting to see inside the head of the sitter himself as the picture develops and is finally completed.
Well written and easy to read. I could happily reread this many times. I liked all the pictures referred to in the text being reproduced in the book close to/opposite where they are mentioned so there is no endless flicking back and forth.
Excellent for any fan of Freud or art.
Would make a very good gift.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Album... innit?, 27 Sept. 2008
This review is from: A Very Nice Album (Audio CD)
I bought this after watching Nige on the last night of the proms. His virtuoso talent is unrestrained on this album, and is very impressive. The instrumental tracks have strong melodies which are easy on the ear, and quite memorable. I felt the vocal performances were not up to the mark (especially Nigels'), perhaps the money he saved on the DIY album cover would have been better spent on a stronger vocalist to match Nigel's own talent.
