4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price............., 14 Sept. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A good value set of stubby screwdivers from Silverline.

Work out at about one pound each which is pretty good as far as I am concerned.

There are four head types:

1. Slotted - 5mm
2. Slotted - 6mm
3. PZD - No.1
4. PZD - No.2

They are composed of chrome vanadium steel and soft-grip handles, they are comfortable to use and are perfect for use in confined spaces.

There is a hanging hole through the top of each of the handles, this can also allow use of the shaft of another screwdriver to apply rotational force from the side, sometimes necessary because it can be difficult to exert a large amount of force with a stubby screwdriver.

The overall length of each screwdriver is 100mm, with the handle comprising of 60mm of that.

It states when purchasing that the 'Handle colour may vary', and so it did with mine, the ones I received being yellow instead of the blue pictured; this obviously makes no difference whatsoever to the performance though!

Being Silverline they come with the standard lifetime guarantee for all handtools, simply register online via the Silverline website within 30 days of purchase.

Overall a really good little set; four good quality stubby screwdrivers with a lifetime guarantee for under a fiver delivered, you can't ask for more than that!

4.0 out of 5 stars Action 80's style!, 14 Sept. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Peacekeeper [DVD] (DVD)
The Peacekeeper was initially released in 1997, and was mostly well received at the time.

In the film big Dolph plays Major Frank Cross of the US Air Force, he is responsible for carrying and protecting the President's personal communications computer (basically this is a briefcase that has the capability of launching the US arsenal).

The main premise is that a terrorist group have attacked Major Frank Cross and stolen the all important briefcase, they take control of a missile silo and then basically hold the president to ransom, Dolph has to then save the day, along with the help of Montel Williams (yes, THAT Montell Williams!).

The film co-stars Michael Sarrazin, the aforementioned Montel Williams, Roy Scheider and Christopher Heyerdahl, and was shot on location in Montreal.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it really took me back to all those great 80's action flicks.

The action is really good, particularly the sequence at the start of the film where the case is stolen, there is a car chase across rooftops (yes, rooftops!); and there are very few periods when the film slows down.

The performances are all good, Dolph in particular is surprisingly good giving a very relaxed and natural display, and its always good to see Roy Scheider, he plays a pretty tough US President here.

The film itself has a running time of 90 minutes, the picture and sound quality are not as good as I'd like, the image at times is quite soft, but this didn't actually detract from my enjoyment.

This disc is Region Free.

Overall a surprisingly a good film, more enjoyable than many action films released nowadays, and one of the better films in Dolph's career in my opinion.

3.0 out of 5 stars For Dolph completists only.............., 14 Sept. 2012
This review is from: The Last Patrol [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
Ok I'll start with the description from the back of the box and then give my opinion, with a rating out of five, before giving any technical specifications.

An earthquake measuring 9.5 on the Richter Scale splits California into an island with a perpetual dustcloud hanging over it. The survivors of the terrible ordeal have started to come together in the shape of Nick Preston (Dolph Lundgren) an airforce captain, and other fractions of the military, including Sarah McBride and Lucky Simcoe, and have situated themselves in a warfare junkyard, holding weaponry from forgotten conflicts. They are searching for food, fuel and fellow survivors, and a possible path into the next world, while also dodging a violent plague that causes the skin to boil.

Ok, where to start with The Last Patrol...................

This film is from 2000 and is for me one of the weaker films in Dolphs career, so much so that although I managed to make it through to the end credits I probably won't be watching again.

It has some reasonably good action sequences, and the film begins well enough with the earthquake that starts proceedings, but its just too slow for my liking and very little seems to happen for long stretches.

Dolph is ok, not his best performance, but he doesn't embarrass himself.

The film has a rating of '12' and this may explain the lack of really decent action.

Picture quality is ok, sound is only provided in Stereo 2.0, and the running time is 91 minutes.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen worse but Dolph has most definitely made considerably better, and I would only really recommend this title on its own to Lundgren completists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Action 80's style!, 14 Sept. 2012
This review is from: Men of War [DVD] (DVD)
Ok I'll start with the description from the back of the box and then give my opinion, with a rating out of five, before giving any technical specifications.

Nick Gunar (Dolph Lundgren) is a burnt-out, jaded and hard-up former mercenary who is having a difficult time adjusting to civilian life. At the end of his rope, he is hired by the Nitro Mine Corporation to strong-arm the natives of a South China Sea island into giving up their rights to its valuable mineral resources. Nick loathes the thought of another mission, but this seemingly easy job will earn him enough money to get back with his estranged family. He recruits some of his former mercenary buddies to help him with the job. The island people refuse to give up their land and Nick decides to help them fight the greedy corporation that hired him. The island and its people bring Nick back to life. He finally finds something worth fighting for and a place to call home. As greed and treachery begin to unravel, Nick's band of mercenaries choose sides. Some are with him and others, still working for the corporation, will stop at nothing to destroy him.

Men of War was first released in 1994 and was fairly well received by the critics, and rightly so!

It can best be described as a proper 80's style action film (albeit made in the 90's), it reminded me quite a bit of Commando with a touch of Predator thrown in for good measure. The action scenes are really entertaining and manage to convey destruction and death with little in the way of gratuitous graphic violence, thus its '15' rating.

Although it is not a big budget film it does look surprisingly good, the location shooting (in Thailand) is absolutely stunning and the main set pieces, in particular the twenty minute finale, almost have a 'no expense spared' feel to them.

The film has a running time of 99 minutes and looks pretty good on DVD, the sound is only available in Stereo 2.0 but this doesn't detract from the enjoyment for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't expect too much and you'll enjoy it!, 14 Sept. 2012
Ok I'll start with the description from the back of the box and then give my opinion, with a rating out of five, before giving any technical specifications:

There were those who called him Icarus. Everyone else knew him as a divorced father working for an investment company. But they didn t know his other side - his dark side. Because Icarus (Dolph Lundgren) was at his best when he was killing people. For years, he d worked as a sleeper agent in America - but when the Soviet Empire collapsed, he found himself in a foreign country with no one to trust. Determined to break from his dark past, he started over with a new identity. But you can only escape your past for so long. When a sudden mishap in Hong Kong blows Icarus identity, past and present collide - and the assassin realizes he is now the target. The people that want him dead will stop at nothing to get to him. And that means going after what he cares about most - his wife and daughter. Fighting for his life, Icarus is forced to face the demons of his past to protect the loved ones in his present. He must fight to save the only thing he s ever done right in his life. He needs to uncover who is after him and protect his family, before it s too late.

I really enjoyed The Killing Machine!

I wasn't expecting too much, what with it being a direct to video effort and having read some of the reviews on Amazon, but I was pleasantly surprised.

It is a violent film, graphically violent infact, thus its '18' rating.

It is directed by big Dolph himself and I'm pleased with this, he has directed several of his films now and I always enjoy his efforts, I particularly recommend:

Command Performance [DVD]

and

Missionary Man [DVD] [2008]

Its a fast paced film with very few slow moments, the action scenes are aplenty and are well filmed with a high degree of blood; Dolph himself turns in a really good performance and despite it being first and foremost an action film he has some nice moments with his wife and child where he gets to show his range.

Excellent picture quality, with sound in both stereo or 5.1 Dolby, and a choice of viewing the film in either 16x9 Fullframe or Letterbox.

The running time is just 85 minutes including credits, but I didn't feel shortchanged because it maintains interest and has a good little ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully manufactured little tool........, 14 Sept. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a beautifully manufactured driver set from Draper.

Draper are a reliable brand and I have purchased many items from them over the past few years, this tool kit is from their 'Expert' range and thus offers a higher degree of precision and quality.

The centrepiece of the set is a double sided stubby reversible ratchet; it is a small but perfectly formed tool, just 110mm in length and with a 1/4-inch square drive male on one side and a 1/4-inch hexagon female drive head on the other.

The handle takes up 70mm of the overall length, it is very comfortable to use and is part covered in a rubberised grip for an improved hold.

There are then 21 additional pieces for use with the ratchet:

1. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 4mm
2. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 5mm
3. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 6mm
4. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 7mm
5. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 8mm
6. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 9mm
7. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 10mm
8. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 11mm
9. Draper Expert - Hi-Torq 6-point socket - Size 12mm

10. 1/4-inch square drive - 1/4-inch hexagonal adaptor

11. Cross-slot insert bit - Size no.1
12. Cross-slot insert bit - Size no.2
13. Cross-slot insert bit - Size no.3

14 & 15 - Draper Tx-Star insert bit - Size: T10 (x 2)
16 & 17 - Draper Tx-Star insert bit - Size: T15 (x 2)
18 & 19 - Draper Tx-Star insert bit - Size: T20 (x 2)
20. Draper Tx-Star insert bit - Size: T30
21. Draper Tx-Star insert bit - Size: T40

The pieces are all well manufactured, with the Draper Expert Hi-Torq 6-point sockets being of a particularly good quality.

The tools come supplied in a small but sturdy plastic carry case, measuring just 140 x 70 x 30mm, and they are held in place by a firm and accurately cut foam inlay.

The product comes with a Draper lifetime guarantee.

Overall a fantastic little kit, beautifully manufactured and a joy to use. I initially bought mine for use with my mountain bike but have found it increasingly useful for all manner of other tasks around the house and in the shed.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly effective!, 13 Sept. 2012
A had been meaning to invest in a drill duct collector for quite some time, having had enough of balancing on a ladder with one hand with the drill, the other holding the vacuum cleaners extension nozzle.

I was just a little hesitant though, surely these things couldn't work as promised?

Anyway, after reading some positive reviews on Amazon I thought I'd give these Silverline versions a go.

The dust collectors are simply made; they consist of a clear plastic 'collection cone' and a blue plastic internal cone, it is a tough plastic and has been nicely manufactured with no sharp edges or inperfections.

The idea is that the blue cone fits over the drill bit, the drill bit passes through a ring of brush fibres (designed to hold the collector in place), and then out through a hole in the end of the clear cone.

On the outside of the clear cone, where the drill bit passes through, there is a small foam ring that helps form a seal when pressed against the wall.

When drilling starts the combination of the collectors design and the airflow created by the drill sucks any dust produced into the collection area between the two cones.

It is really quite effective, certainly as good as I could have hoped for, and only a very small amount of dust occasionally escapes collection.

When finished the collector is easy to empty, simply unscrew the two cones from each other and empty into a bin, hey presto!

The dust collector can handle drill bits of between 4 and 10mm.

It has a diameter of 80mm at the rear, decreasing to 30mm at the front, and a depth of 45mm.

The way it is designed does mean you lose approximately 20mm off of the drill bits available length, but this shouldn't be a problem with most standard required holes still being comfortably achievable.

The dust collectors come with a lifetime guarantee, as long as they are registered online via the official Silverline website within 30 days of purchase.

Overall I'm genuinely pleased with this product, it is a clever little design, nicely manufactured and it actually works!

I should point out that there is a bulk case of this item also available: Silverline 868744 20 Piece Display Box of 4-10 mm Drill Dust Collectors

Now, the individual units are being sold at about £4.00 each, however this display case is available and contains 20 (yes 20) units for about £17.00!!!

Now it doesn't take Carol Vorderman to calculate that this works out at just 85p each, or a potential saving of about £63.00!

I like this product so much I decided to buy this case.

It arrived in a big strong cardboard box and even had an advertising board to attach, just like in the shops; the individual units are all packaged individually as if intended for resale.

Ok, I admit twenty of these units may be a bit excessive, and its probably more than you're going to ever use, but for the same price you would only get four individual ones, and that probably isn't enough to last a lifetime!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another quality product from Silverline.............., 13 Sept. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love my shed, it is my little 8 by 6 haven away from the worlds problems.

Unfortunately due to my love for all things DIY I am rapidly running out of room to store the contents!

I have used hooks, racks, shelfs and organiser trays and thought I would give these magnetic tool racks a go.

There are more than one brand available on Amazon, but I decided to settle on this set from Silverline for two reasons.

Firstly they were the most competitively priced and secondly they are from Silverline, a company I use regularly and have come to appreciate their quality and value for money.

The set comprises of three magnetic racks.

Each rack consists of the same standard dimensions of 25mm in height and 15mm depth; each one then differs in it's length, they are:

1. 200mm
2. 300mm
3. 460mm

There is a section at each end of each rack, this is to allow for the screws (included) to attach them to walls and surfaces. These sections do not therefore contain a magnet, so this means the actual length of the part that can be used to hold tools etc is shorter than the overall length:

1. 150mm on the 200mm rack
2. 250mm on the 300mm rack
3. 405mm on the 460mm rack

The racks are extremely solid and well built, they are quite heavy and this is probably due to the considerable magnets.

The magnets are really powerful, easily enough to hold screwdrivers, spanners etc in place very securely, they are also suitable for holding larger items such as wrenches and hammers.

The racks come with the excellent Silverline lifetime guarantee, as long as the product is registered online (via the Silverline website) within 30 days of purchase.

I keep a folder in my shed with copies of all the guarantee certificates for Silverline tools I have purchased, I also print off a copy of the receipt for each item and attach accordingly............ Just in case!

The only negative for me is with the 'Silverline' logo stickers that run along the length of the magnetic section; they look pretty good but are not very strong and very quickly they can become ripped when adding and removing objects.

This does in no way effect the effectiveness of the product, but I would have liked to see it printed on instead.

Overall really good, an excellent addition to a shed or garage, and a great way to hold tools for quick access and when space is running short!
