I had a variety of USB 2.0 drives and was keen to consolidate to a single large USB 3.0 drive. Verbatim seemed to be offering the best price for 2TB USB 3.0 when I purchased this. I have now had the drive for several months and it is reliable and quick, much, much quicker than USB 2.0. When turned on the drive makes a modem like screech, but when running you can hear the disk spinning, but there doesn't appear to be any external fan so the drive is very quiet in operation. The box holding the drive is a very solid metal construction with plastic at the front (complete with activity LED), it feels well made and more substantial than the WD cases.
Verbatim offer the drive with a USB 3.0 add in card and a version without. The USB 3.0 add in card is a PCI Express (the smaller form factor) card which needs a spare molex power socket to be plugged into it. Installation was slightly complex as there was no supplied driver CD, the drivers were on the Verbatim drive. Therefore plug the drive into a USB 2.0 slot, install the drivers, turn off and then install the card and hey presto Windows XP plugs and plays nicely.
The only downer is the tiny length of the supplied USB 3.0 cable, I would highly recommend buying the 2M cable from Amazon: 2M USB 3.0 Extension Cable, Blue
