4.0 out of 5 stars Well presented book on the history of Fleetwood Mac, 22 Oct. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The Complete Illustrated History is a well presented book, has some lovely photos and covers the complete band, but...... skimming through it today it contains errors and omissions.

I never really understand the fact checking here, does the writer actually ask anyone knowledgable on the band to fact check the content. Confusing the Live In Boston 2004 release with the blues band release of the early 70s is a travesty, including solo album pictures till 1989's OSOTM but no others seems rushed to me and the discography has errors.

I generally ache for a decent, accurate bio of Fleetwood Mac to be released that is factually correct, covers the whole timeline in equal measure, stays consistent with content and fills in some of the blanks, this would be great, but I fear I will continue to wait.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great retrospective on Blondie and the US punk scene, 5 Sept. 2016
Enjoyed this collection of pictures and thoughts from the early punk-era of Blondie, would have liked to seen and read more of the post Blondie era and the Debbie solo phase and then reconvening of the band. Maybe a part two is in order. amazingly I got this book (from a very good friend) in Jan and never found the time to read it and then picked it up today and read it cover to cover, a very enjoyable read, thanks Chris!

A truly humbling, heartbreaking book about the effects of the worst act of aggression known to man, but that said, this book also shows the immense strength of the human spirit to prevail and forgive. A memorable read that will feed your sole.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable book on the life & times of Blondie, 31 Aug. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book was enjoyable and I was able to quickly read through in a few days whilst on holiday. The book covers the band from their early days all the way through to the recent release of Panic Of Girls. The content is a little too slated towards the early days and does not cover the second half of the band in as much detail and has lots of background content on the New York scene of the mid-seventies. Co-written by Kris Needs who knew the band from the early days so includes some first hand reflections.

If you like Blondie or the New York music scene in the seventies I think you will enjoy this book

This review is from: Holiday Road (MP3 Download)
At last, this forgotten gem from Lindsey Buckingham finally gets an official digital release, and the equally forgotten b-side also makes it's digital debut, well done everyone involved, but what took you so long and what's with the cover?

Shunt: The Life of James Hunt
Shunt: The Life of James Hunt
by Tom Rubython
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

4.0 out of 5 stars A throughly enjoyable book that captured my attention...., 29 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A throughly enjoyable book that captured my attention and forced me to complete the 600+ pages in just over five days whilst on holiday.

The book was very well laid out in chronological order on the career of James Hunt and provided good background info on the main players that affected James Hunt's life and career.

The book is long and takes a good amount of time and dedication to plough on thorough, but overall is very rewarding when complete that allows the reader to think back over a far-too-brief life of the formula one driver and commentator that was James Hunt.

A few niggles on the editing of the paperback, some misspelt words and paragraphs being added in mid-sentence (the editor should really pay a little more attention), but other then that a fine book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine addition to any music book library and currently the only up and date and fairly accurate book on the career of Stevie Ni, 29 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I took this book on holiday for reading whilst relaxing in the sun, what was great about this was that I could listen to the songs as the author explained the backstory of the songs, overall this was a very enjoyable book and provided a good appreciation of the career of Stevie Nicks, generally Stevie does not get a whole book dedicated to her career and her songs, normally this is contained within books on Fleetwood Mac, don't get me wrong, there is much info contained on Fleetwood Mac and especially Lindsey Buckingham, but as the title explains, Stevie was very much the main content within this book.

This book has received some mild criticism online that the content was just made up of existing info from other books, press releases and interviews, but as Stevie has not authorised a biography of herself at this time, then this is as best that we will get at this time. I thought the author did a fine job of chronicling the info into the correct time-steam and provided a good account of the career of Stevie Nicks up to including the end of 2013.

A few minor niggles where content was not completely accurate, but overall a fine addition to any music book library and currently the only up and date and fairly accurate book on the career of Stevie Nicks.

3.0 out of 5 stars enjoyed the book, 9 July 2015

enjoyed the book, probably because it took me back to the early 1980s and my love of Football / Arsenal, was interesting to read about the player dynamics and sacking of Terry Neill. His vision into the future of football contained some accurate predictions.

2.0 out of 5 stars quite disappointed by the amount of pages and accuracy of the book, 9 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had really high hopes of this book as it was written by insiders of the company, but when the book arrived I was quite disappointed by the amount of pages (160) that were contained in the £16.00 paperback book. Anyway the content is more important that the quantity, but here I was disappointed again, the fact that the book is woefully short on accuracy that properly reflects the trials and tribulations of the BMC, BLMC, British Leyland, BL, Rover Group and MG Rover car company.

Huge sways of crucial events were covered briefly or not at all and some important facts were plain wrong, this was inexcusable from the three authors who were insiders that were employed by the company. The content had an interesting perspective, but overall the book failed in delivering any real new content that only an insider should have and could have contributed, the book felt in many ways as potentially what could have been... much like the company that the book was trying to detail.

Play On: Now, Then and Fleetwood Mac
Play On: Now, Then and Fleetwood Mac

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book, 29 Dec. 2014
I enjoyed this book, nice to see that the Fleetwood Mac story (from Mick's perspective) brought up to date, the book did allocate the nearly fifty percent to the early years before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the band and really over covered the years post-1990 in the last third of the book, this was a surprise as Mick's previous book covered up to 1990, but I guess he felt that he needed to tell this story again.

The pre-1990 section could be seen as a duplicate, but I felt that the story was told with a fresher sense of perspective, probably as it included information from Mick's first wife Jenny Boyd that took the story in a slightly different direction with more emphasis on regrets and acknowledged the dysfunctional family life as opposed to the just being focused on Fleetwood Mac.

The later section that dealt with the post-1990 band was a little rushed, many years were skipped and as this timeframe is really lacking in print, this was a missed opportunity, the book was finished bang up to date with Christine McVie re-joining the band and Fleetwood Mac being out on the road again.

All in all, a good read for a fan of the band, or for a casual observer of Fleetwood Mac and Mick Fleetwood.
