5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking, 7 Oct. 2015
This review is from: Folk Singer (Audio CD)
One of the greatest blues albums of all time. not strictly speaking typical Muddy - as its more acoustic and more Delta than much of the Chicago work he's known for from around this period.
But the voice....
The man had more soul in his little finger than a thousand of his imitators. There are moments here that quite simply sent goosebumps up your spine with the sheer power and emotion of the delivery.
Absolutely no blues collection is complete without this album. If you've not heard it before - or even if you have and need a new copy, buy it now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cracking honky tonk, 18 Jan. 2015
Who says country is dying then? Cracking toe tappin' honky tonk country and real old fashioned tear jerkers. Blimey - didn't think they made albums like this anymore

2.0 out of 5 stars Good - but a missed opportunity, 17 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Entertaining enough read alright. One to delve into if you've got 2 minutes. A fair book for the coffee table, the loo or the doctors waiting room.
But theres no insight here - nothing but a paper thin coverage of the events or their perceived significance in rock. I accept that its a personal perspective of the author - but why pick these events and not others? Whats the thread that ties them together? The book starts off by brief mentions of teenage rebellion - but that soon peters out into by the numbers descriptions of the usual suspect events (Woodstock, Altamont, Live Aid etc.). There's no depth here - nothing you wouldn't get from a thousand other books. When you get to the last little episode (the death of MJ) it effectively just peters out. No summary, no hypothesis - just a feeling that "There you go - theres 50, I'll shut up now".
Paulo - you can do much much better

3.0 out of 5 stars Playing is true quality - shame about the sound, 13 Sept. 2013
This review is from: Live in San Francisco (Audio CD)
Ry's live releases are so few and far between grabbing this one as soon as it came out was a no-brainer. The artistry and musicianship is as always with Cooder of the highest quality and its great to hear him on new material with Flaco.
Sound quality however is very boomy and more than a little disappointing. Though not necessarily ruining the listening experience there's bootlegs with better sound. Bit of a shame but still worth shelling out for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Erratic - but sometimes painfully funny, 18 Mar. 2008
This review is from: Peep Show, Series 4 [DVD] (DVD)
As ever - the fourth series of Peep Show wheels between one idea an episode mediocrity and wildly funny brilliance. If anything thankfully this series veers more to the latter than the first three. It also includes a couple of real belters of episodes. The weekend at Sophies parents is hilarious - but the real gem is the canal boat stag weekend. One of the funniest things I've ever seen on television - but excruciating to watch. All in all - miles ahead of almost all of the comedy TV showing at the moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Four in - and still the best, 13 May 2005
Comparisons with other programmes and other series seem pointless somehow....
Jacks backs again ,the plots as daft as ever - but its still the most fun thing on the TV by absolute miles. Who cares that people can take part in gunfights less than an hour after being pronounced dead (series 2), mastermind the saving of Los Angeles from a killer virus after undergoing major surgery for gun shot wounds in the neck (series 3) or totally lose and regain their memory within the space of three hours (series 1).
The slight change to this series is the lack of "parallel plots" (e.g. Jack/ David/ Kim happening at the same time as in the other series) - but the sheer pace of whats happening means its not really noticable.
Roll on Series 5!
