4.0 out of 5 stars Sharpe's Honour / Sharpe's Gold, 6 Dec. 2009
Sharpe's Honour

Sharpe's Honour, the fifth of the television adaptations of Bernard Cornwell's novels, sees Sharpe in 1813 pushing up into Northern Spain. He clashes with his arch nemesis Major Ducos who arranges for him to be falsely accused of rape and then framed for murder. Sharpe is then sentenced to hang for the crimes but under subterfuge leaves with Harper on orders to uncover the truth of the events.

Sharpe's Gold

Sharpe's Gold, the sixth of the television adaptations of Bernard Cornwell's novels, diverts away from the book almost entirely, which could lead to pureists being disappointed in this episode. However, taken purely on the merits of the show it still provides an entertaining story.

It sees Sharpe sent on a mission to exhange rifles for deserters which sounds simple until he gets caught up with a mother and daughter, relatives of Wellington, who are searching for their missing husband and father.

Another two very good episodes, well worth watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favourite Season So Far, 6 Dec. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With the start of season four starting immediately after the car accident at the end of season three, it wastes no time in ramping up the drama which is maintained throughout the season. It sees the completion of High School and graduation for the children, Dan fighting the guilt of Keith's death, Peyton's stalker and the Ravens finally getting the success they have longed for.

The storylines, writing and acting quality continue to excel throughout the season to make some outstanding television.

The box set contains all 21 episodes of the fourth season. As with the previous seasons there are plenty of extras including additional scenes on most episodes, commentaries on three episodes, a gag reel and a featurette on the how they came to make the episode set during the road trip to Texas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sharpe's Company / Sharpe's Enemy, 29 Nov. 2009
Sharpe's Company

Sharpe's Comapny, the third of the television adaptations of Bernard Cornwell's novels, sees Sharpe lose his captaincy to new officers who have bought commissions over him. It also sees him re-united with his old enemy from India, Obadiah Hakeswill (played devilishly by Pete Postlethwaite).

Set in 1812, Sharpe leads the Folorn Hope against Badajoz to recapture the town and his captaincy.

Sharpe's Enemy

Sharpe's Enemy, the fourth of the television adaptations of Bernard Cornwell's novels, sees Sharpe in 1813 Portugal, hunting for a band of deserters including his old enemy Obadiah Hakeswill who have captured two women and are holding them hostage in a small fortress town. Sharpe must rescue them before he can take news back to Wellington of a planned French offensive.

With these episodes, the series is really starting to get itself established and into its stride. Well worth watching.

House - Season 4 - Complete [DVD]
House - Season 4 - Complete [DVD]
Dvd ~ Hugh Laurie
Price: £4.99

4.0 out of 5 stars House Remodelled, 29 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Anybody who has seen the first three seasons of House has come to expect the sarcasm and caustic humour that Hugh Laurie has brought to the role and this season continues in the same vein and so won't disappoint on that front.

I was concerned with how they would continue the series following the end of the third season with the resignation of all his staff. So, thankfully with this season they have taken the chance to change direction and in the most part it works. Series regulars Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer are reduced to recurring characters which is disappointing but it gives the chance to bring in a string of new characters as House plays the game of recruiting his new staff; while losing his fragile grip on reality even more than usual.

I didn't enjoy it as much as the first three seasons. This could be due to the writer's strike of that year leading to it being cut short (only 16 episodes compared to the 22-24 of previous ones) and the story rushed. Still excellent television though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Third Season, 29 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As with the two previous seasons, this one starts immediately after the end of the first with the fire at Dan's car dealership. It sees the kids entering the first half of their senior year at Tree Hill High School with the drama getting even better than before.

With this season, the show has really got into it's stride with the confidence of the actors within their roles and the writing really coming together to produce some outstanding television.

The box set contains all 22 episodes of the third season. As with the previous seasons there are plenty of extras including additional scenes on most episodes, commentaries on three episodes and a featurette on the making of an episode.

If you have enjoyed the first two seasons, then this is an essential purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Far Fetched, 28 Nov. 2009
This review is from: Knowing [DVD] [2009] (DVD)
For me, this film started off as a brilliant thriller with the mystery of the numbers predicting future disasters. It built up the suspense well and was very well filmed but ultimately the twist at the end was too predictable and felt like an easy way out for explaining the story. Unfortunately it succumbed to the demands of American audiences that there must be a happy ending to any blockbuster, whereas if they had taken another tack with the story rather than introducing aliens it could have been a much more satisfying and thought provoking film.

In summary, a good action film, ultimately let down by it's conclusion.
