Before reading this book I would have said contempt is unacceptable as a response to superbia (people assuming a 'natural' superiority over others), yet am now convinced that hard feelings such as contempt MUST become the center of attention and discussion because whether we like it or not, such hard feelings are part of all emotional reality. The one insightful point the author makes is that contempt is an excellent defence against shame. This alone is worth a long discussion. I agree that it is an excellent defence against shame, and I regret that the author does not take this point further in support of 'redeeming' contempt as an 'apt' response. A book well-worth reading!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A confrontation with all that which makes us so vulnerable to and keeps us bound to bad personal relationships, 2 April 2015

Superb beyond words. A confrontation with all that which makes us so vulnerable to and keeps us bound to bad personal relationships, s***ty leaders, want-to-be-saviours and corporate serfdom. A book beyond description that will challenge even the most hardcore self-help guru to taking one more step in the direction of courage - and a courage that will make a difference in the ground you live on. I simply dare you to open it... to read it... with your life wide open and ready for the ride...

The book reads like a list of research that supports point after point that author is trying to make. It goes really no further than this. Disappointing and not much meat on the bone to stimulate thinking on the part of the reader. Too bad really. It had potential...

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative, 23 July 2013

I find this book very informative, but a little short on analysis outside the box. Over and over again we get to hear about the failures, without the context of the absolutely extraordinary that was at the same time happening. Such extraordinary daring comes with all sorts of liabilities, and most of the time the focus is on the breaking apart - with little room give for how truly radical these various groupings were and why such daring can rarely last ...

This book is a great trip through time and the universe. I highly recommend it for people wanting to know more about where our world is, what it is made up of, and why we should carry it as the most precious reality anyone one of us will ever have.

Riveting and requires intense honesty of the shocking kind. Read, laugh, yell, but know this is must read for couples.
